Thanks, all. I think shortening the sleeves slightly and raising the hem to below my knee would help. I don't think this style is intended to be straight, though, because it has the same cut as the Duchess jackets.

These coat finds have me thinking a lot about how the not-tall, not-slim crowd can wear maxi coats without looking overwhelming. From brief online searches, it seems they can't, at least, not without heels.

I have two maxi EF cardigans that work on me (at least to my eye), because they offer a straight but fluid column of color with minimal bulk. Critically, they're also worn open. Since the conditions that make these cardigans flattering can't be applied to winter coats, I'm probably going to write off maxi lengths.

I think this is too small. I think it's supposed to hang straight but I can see it coming in at the waist.
But it's ok because I think the peaked lapel one is great!

My thoughts: are you going to wear this as a cold weather coat, or as a fun coat to wear open? Then the smaller size is good, but I feel much to long.
I love the pattern and I'm also looking for a coat like this. Actually since last year Angie posted an ensemble.

I like the fit of the smaller one on you, but I wonder if you can wear any layers under it. I also think it's too long. But, I noticed something else - I'm wondering why is it that the flap pockets look like they are placed higher on the larger size than the smaller size?!

I worry about the lack of layers under your coat - so make sure that part is sorted.

I stand by my opinion on the length. Too long, overwhelming, and the welted pockets look to far down on your body. But that part could improve if you hemmed it 12 inches.

the smaller size is WAY better, love the coat when its open as shown in #3....like the coat when it is closed like #2....

What a striking coat. The fit of the smaller one is very good, much better than the larger one. Do you plan to keep it that long? It seems a little overwhelming.

The smaller size looks fab on you. Is it comfortable when you move and also under the arms? If you plan to wear it over a jacket you may need to keep the medium instead, just to have a little extra space. When I first saw your pictures I got happy thinking that longer coats may be making a comeback. I have a long coat that I don’t want to cut... Are longer coats back in style?

I got hold of the leopard coat in a size smaller and it fits much better. I wouldn't wear a super chunky sweater underneath, because it would be pretty tight in the arm. Then again, I don't own any at the moment.

Posting both sizes here.
