I missed this when you posted - all those Picasso posts - but had to comment. All the work you have done has really paid off Tanya - you have a fabulous wardrobe. It would be unfair to pick a favourite but #23 does really speak to me & I love the UO shoes too.

This is an impressive post. You put in a lot of work here and the results are fantastic. I love how everything pulls together so nicely.

I haven't really thought of things in capsules yet. I really should, and probably could now because the color palette in my closet is well defined and I have included more variety in pattern, shape, texture, etc. I wish I had more time and energy right now!

This is so inspirational, thank you to Angie and Tanya for both takes on creating Spring's biz casual wow wardrobes! I'm motivated to look at my own clothes with new eyes. I have lots of fashionable items and get stuck doing the same outfit over and over again. I'll be putting your pictures up in my closet for inspiration!

Thank you very much, Diana, Diane and Dimity ! (Di x3 )

Diana, yes, I guess this would work very well as a travel wardrobe, for conferences and such. I feel that overall it is a bit too dressy for every day in the lab (well at least my lab). I might substitute the tuxedo blazer for a simple black one to to tone things down a little.

Diane, wow, I am impressed that you read everything, thank you! You are very kind.

Dimity, I am very glad this clarifies the capsule priniciple. The credit really belongs to Angie, I only followed her brilliant post.

Wow! I am so impressed! (and I did read your whole post :)) It's lovely how you laid everything out so clearly in the photos and of your outfits a few favourites of mine are 13, 14/15, 16/17, 24/25. All the items work so well together and I can imagine how the extras will add even more variety. What a gret job you've done!

Wow, Tanya, this is super impressive and such a great illustration of the capsul concept. I could see this being a GREAT travel wardrobe. It could easily go for 2 weeks or more, if you had laundry. Add one fancier outfit for dress up and one gearish outfit with sneakers, and I could do something like this for a whole month, I think.

Thank you all very much for your very kind words! It was fun going through this exercise, though tiring. It took me the whole afternoon yesterday. Nevertheless, I think it was worth it. The two biggest things I got out of this are:
1. To remember than I can wear short sleeved/sleeveless tops earlier in the season when layered under a topper. For some reason I tend to layer with long sleeve tops in the spring and keep short sleeved/sleeveless ones to wear on their own when the weather warms up.
2. The sort-of resurrection of those cropped skinny jeans. They are super old, bought about 7 years ago when skinnies just appeared and were worn full length and scrunched. I bought them exclusively to wear tucked into tall boots and that is how they got worn all these years. The newer trend of wearing cropped jeans still didn't switch the light bulb in my head, till I saw Angie's post.

Rabbit, my favorites from these are #20 and #21/22. I adore the shirt in #21/22 and could not figure out how to dress it down a little before.

Texstyle, I would not say I have much discipline when it comes to building capsules - this one organically happened as I know my favorite colors and shapes; but it was very accidental.

Angie, thank so much, you are making me blush ! I love playing dress-up doll too, though I tended to always be the one who dresses the doll, not the actual doll. That would be an interesting change of perspective I would love for us to be able to play at it together one day.

I am very curious about the concept of midtones and pastels in the same capsule. Were you planning to post that capsule of your client's at some point? How would the midtones and pastels be combined together, as in two shades of the same color or of different colors? Or would it go pastels with pastels, midtones with midtones, and the two would mix only when originating form the same color?
What I was planning to do were the following two capsules:
1. All the shades of blue and white with a couple of colored accents ( lemon/citron, mid-purples and mid-pinks)
2. White and light grey and pastels.

Of course, I can always be persuaded to change my mind. :-D

We could spend months playing in your closets putting together outfits and capsules. How FUN would that be. I love playing dress-up doll.

It's hard to pick a favourite outfit, Tanya. It's a toss up between #13, 15, 20, 22, 23 and 25. All k-word worthy.

Next on your list: Pastels with mid tones and white.

Ok, I didn't read it all (but will eventually). I just had to jump ahead to the pictures. And WOW is definitely the only response. In my way, I first concentrated on your feet. I always love your shoes Tanya. Then I flipped through again admiring the outfits. Gorgeous - some of your best outfits ever I think, or as good as your best outfits, which is a high standard. I need to study this at a more wakeful point later on to take in the details, but thanks for sharing!

You put in so much work here, and you have come up with a lot of fantastic outfits. There is a lot of variety/potential for a lot of variety here, and this will take you well into the summer months. You have a great neutral base with some nice pops of color. Well done!

First of all, I would like to warn you that this is a huge post, so please do not feel obliged to read everything :) I am sort of making up for not contributing much in the past 6 weeks.
I started my spring closet cleaning/switch earlier today and decided to play a little bit and see if I can make a spring capsule based on Angie's post yesterday on Smart Casual for Spring. I tried to stay as close as possible to the original as I have some fairly similar pieces. The color scheme is the same: black, white and taupe, with bright accents (fuchsia and some cobalt later). The item number is also the same, other than the fact that I have 9 tops, as I like to have three tops for every bottom, and the tops are also a bit more trendy than classic. I have also included some accessories like belts and scarves. The items are mix of high, medium and low price wise; and also very old, old-ish, and new. The more recent items, purchased in the last year or so, were added in the finds. I tried to make the pictures as clear as possible but it is tough to do that with cell phone and mirror.

1. The items:

The bottoms (#1) are very similar to original ones in Angie's post, they are black cigarette pants (BR Martin); taupe skinny jeans, coated and embossed (Habitual) and high waisted cropped dark skinnies (Rich and Skinny).
The tops (#2-4) are mainly on trend, most are similar to Angie's, though not all:

On trend fluid drape-front woven blouse in plaid pattern (Piperlime)

On trend voluminous silk blouse in a bright color - different from original post other than color (Vince)

On trend fluid knitted patterned top (Tart)

On trend oversize woven high-low white shirt (10 Crosby Derek Lam)

On trend pattern graphic tunic tee (McQ)

Classic fluid striped cotton sweater (Joe Fresh)

On trend fluid lace knit shell (Rebecca Taylor)

Classic fluid silk blouse in kitty pattern (Equipment)

On trend tailored sleeveless color-blocked blouse (10 Crosby Derek Lam)

Tops #3,5 and 8 have taupe in the pattern, so that can picked up by either the taupe jeans or taupe jacket.

Two of the toppers (#5) are similar to Angie's, they are the black knit merino moto jacket (Loft) and taupe leather moto jacket (Marciano). I have nothing remotely close to the black peplum jacket Angie showed, and since it is dressy and tailored, I went for a black tuxedo blazer with pleather trim (Express) to channel a similar vibe.

The shoes (#6) are generally similar: my black booties are cutout (Carvela), black shoes have a small heel and lots of straps for an edgier look (Grey City). Instead of stone booties I went for stone flat oxfords (Everybody) since the springs here are fairly warm.

The bags (#7) are black and white satchel (BR) and bright tote (Kooba). I also used an assortment of belts in all the three neutrals, both solid and patterned (#7) as well as scarves (#8) which also include two brights. Finally (#10), some extra accessories include oversize black sunglasses (Gucci), large white watch (Michael by Michael Kors), mixed metal medium watch (Marc by Marc Jacobs) and two small convertible cross-body bags than go inside the larger bags. They are stone/taupe (Gap) that converts into a clutch and white/black than converts into a wristlet type clutch (BR).

2. The outfits:

Each of nine tops goes with each of the three bottoms. The lace shell and striped sweater can both be layered over the white shirt and white silk kitty blouse for extra variety. Most outfits work with all the jackets and shoes, though to a different degree. I do not mid wearing light shoes with mostly dark outfits as they bookend my hair. The tops are worn both un-tucked and semi-tucked, in which case I use belts. Belts and scarves are generally used to add balance to light/dark colors in various places.
Obviously, I couldn't show every possible combination, so I went for the following:
I combined every bottom with three different tops and three different pairs of shoes, and used toppers in two such outfits. Outfits #11-15 are based on the black pants, #16-20 on the taupe jeans and # 21-25 on the dark denim cropped jeans. In two of them I used two of the tops layered and in the final outfit I went a little creative and used a silk scarf as an obi belt.

3. The extras:

This capsule can be further extended from the original one based on 3 bottoms to a larger one that is based on 5 bottoms and one would therefore be able to spot a different pair of pants every workday of the week. The extra items preserve the color scheme, adding more white and a second accent color, cobalt. The number of extra tops/toppers etc. is proportionally based on the extra bottoms. The extras are:

two bottoms (#26) are cobalt skinny tuxedo jeans (Rag and Bone) and white skinnies (AG). In the same photo you can see the extra bag, a small taupe satchel (BR).

six extra tops (#27 and #28) are:

on trend fluid silk tee in pattern (DVF)

classic fluid cobalt silk shell (BR)

on trend (?) fluid silk patterned turtleneck blouse (Rachel Zoe)

on trend fluid floral knitted top (All Saints)

on trend tailored asymmetric white sweater (Zara)

classic (?) black perforated pleather peplum shell (Express).

Again, the shell and and the sweater can be layered over white shirt and blouse.

two additional toppers (#29) are white cropped peplum blazer (Express) and cream knit moto (Helmut Lang). Also shown is a wild card item, a patterned silk shirtdress with tiny kitties that can also be worn as a tunic over all the pants (10 Crosby Derek Lam).

finally, the additional shoes are cutout patterned white booties (Jeffrey Campbell), pointy loafer cobalt pony hair flats (DV by Dolce Vita) and white loafers (Munro).

I will admit that I planned to show some outfits with the additional items too but ran out of steam.

If you made it so far, thank you very much, you are a real trooper! All the comments are welcome but please do not feel obliged in any way to comment, I know that there is a lot here.

p.s. my i-phone cover totally fits into this capsule and adds to the kitty theme :D
