I find that as long as the scarf isn't too bulky and you don't tie it too many times around, it is still wearable. Totally agree with you - I hardly ever wear this trend because it can veer into flight attendant territory (esp with my love of pencil skirts) and I hardly ever wear it with button downs for this reason.
