It is still summer here although I have spotted a few boots (yes highs are still 90F/32C). I have saved all my oxfords that are comfortable, and feel their day is coming - mostly since I miss them and imagine others do too. It is not that in principle I won't wear them if they aren't trending, but I do pick up on the content I see and dress intuitively.
Anyway, I am also big into loafers and am eager to try socks with more summer shoes this year.

I find this kind of shoe hard to fit— they often pinch toes or rub ankles. Nonetheless I have a few pairs like yours: oxfords with flat or platform soles. I don’t know when I will reach for the thin-soles ones as I really prefer the platform style.

Clogs can be tough, can’t they? I once had a pricey pair from Swedish has-beens, but they were sooooo uncomfortable. I just bought a pair from Charlotte Stone and they seem better padded. We shall see.

I'm really just learning about transitional footwear. I had so little of it (none, some years!) when I lived in humid/ frigid Ontario -- it was all sandals and booties (and boots).

For the first few years I was here in a more moderate climate I pretty much stuck with sneakers. I'm still apparently doing that. I did buy a pair of loafers this year, hoping against hope they will stay on my feet. (Verdict to come). I also own a pair of pink flats (indoor shoes, really) and a pair of dressy pumps. That's it.

I LOVE your oxfords on you and adore the whole outfit. That's a great top!

At the moment I'm still in sandals by day and sneakers at night. Will be switching to the loafers soon.

Kkards, I love boots but I am happy to give my other shoes a bit of an outing before we get truly into boot season.

Hybrid sneaker sounds like an interesting possibility to span the seasons. I’ve been giving my sneakers a workout for the past two years. Here’s my current collection, plus a pair that is not in Finds but I wear a lot, some black platform sneakers with a narrow slightly squared off toe, which I love now that I solved the heel slippage problem with Ondo no-show socks. I almost never wear those black Eccos, since I bought them when I thought my other black ones would have to go away.

The old Adidas are getting pretty beat up, and the sneaker mules are stained and strictly taking-out-the-trash kind of shoes. My slip-on sneakers are all gone — they had comfort issues, or got worn to the point where I no longer enjoyed them. I’m not sure I want to invest more in sneaker-type shoes now, but not ruling it out.

I’m not ready for boots yet, but mostly I’m still wearing sneakers…but will be pulling out my oxfords and loafers. I’ve just added pair of Mary Janes that I’m excited about.
I like the pairs you’ve shown, and i think they all look current. If i was going to add something, I’d add a sneaker hybrid

Love your teal oxfords. They can be a tough find in such a great color. Fun to see the CH Alisas. I had those in a range of colors (dark blue, gray and a medium blue maybe) and loved their comfort and style. Have to see if there are any left in my closet. They aren’t as substantial as the lug soled trend or my leather oxfords, perhaps they would look especially good with your flares or boot cuts.

I am also hoping to get some wear out of the many pairs of casual shoes that went unworn the last couple of years. Bootie/midi boot season is 5-7 months long here. Transitional shoe season can be short, depending on rain and temperature. I enjoy the change from summer footwear to my flats, oxfords and a range of sneakers. I try to add waterproof leather shoes when possible now for more wear time.

Suntiger, I know exactly what you mean about how difficult all the transitional styles seem to be, fit- and practicality wise. It’s good I’m not too tempted by transitional styles in general.

Good memory! I have a version of the FP shoes in copper, but they’re open toe. I still love them and they can be worn for transitional weather for a while too, but they’re more of a summer shoe for me. I’m a little off of those rose gold and copper colors these days, so I don’t wear those as much as I did a few years ago, but I really like them so I work them into outfits with a cognac bag complement sometimes.

I thought you had cognac shoes like the pink ones. Do you still have them? Love the teal!
Transitional shoes are sooo problematic, cause they're always too loose in the heel for me. That's why I stretch the sandal season as long as possible! I have mules but they're hand to walk in. Loafers but they feel too classic. And new sandal booties, which were my solution a few years ago. I may try Rothys, but other knit flats haven't worked, so I don't know if they'd fit better. At least we only need them a couple weeks a year!

Well, too bad those Pliner shoes got all the love, because I went to look for them, and remembered that the last time I wore them, they did not pass the comfort test and I let them go! So the collection is a little sparser. Nonetheless, I still have plenty of options, but if I find just the right thing, a pair of clogs may find their way into my wardrobe.

I have a wardrobe of oxfords, and love them, and always look forward to wearing them when the weather turns cooler. I like the ones you have, especially those teal beauties. You've reminded me I also have a pair of the FP Royale flats in British Tan. Mine were always too wide for comfort, but I'll haul them out, stick in a couple of inserts and see how they feel.

Nice collection- my thoughts are that you may be able to use shoe polish to reduce the contrast on the loafers. Some of the thinner ones would let the black come through but darken the white. I would probably use a grey one.

I have always admired those pink flats. I would just wear them with your neutrals - bksvhs, denims, greys, olives, whites.

I think oxfords are completely timeless - we've been wearing them for a century or more! The ones with side cutouts are especially apt for transitional weather.

My oxfords and loafers don't get as much love since I retired, except for my gold loafers, which are super cushioned and feel like sneakers. I wish I had also bought them in silver at the time.

Dana, yeah, I guess you’re right — I had more than I thought I did! But compared to how many sandals and boots I have, this is a rather small collection, and all of these are 5-12 years old, so not very new! The Pliners are the most recent and might be 4 years old. I think I also underestimate this capsule because I haven’t worn these shoes much in the last couple of years.

I’m glad they look current enough! I will play with styling them and wear soon.

I would say I am very much like you - I love wearing boots in Autumn, Winter and Spring, so it is only my Summer when I don't wear them. These are my transitional shoes: ballet flats, oxfords, a sling back (that actually stays on my foot), loafers and a platform sneaker. I think clogs would be fabulous on you. I keep seeing the Veronica Beard clogs on their website and love how versatile they are.

KILLER outfit. The teal oxfords look fab with the jeans and bag. "Fresh" as you mentioned! The pattern of the top picks up your silvery hair beautifully.

I wear transitional footwear in Summer - apart from when I'm in sandals, which comparatively isn't that often. I love wearing closed shoes! Loafers are my Summer shoes.

I love your oxfords, lots of variety to play with. Here in Montreal, the weather flipped from summer to fall in just one day, so I find myself trying to figure out what my fussy feet will want to wear. I’ve got various coloured fashion sneakers, some black loafers and one red pair of loafers which I love but my feet can have an issue with. Sadly, its comfort over style most of the time.

We are finally starting to get cooler nights (yay for turning off the AC and sleeping with windows open!), and hints of fall are in the air. It’s been blissfully lower humidity lately, so even warm temps feel much more tolerable.

I’ve put away my sandals, and am taking advantage of the emerging season to give my transitional footwear some outings. I don’t have much in the way of the territory in between sandals and boots, except for sneakers. I try not to invest too heavily in those styles since I gravitate more to boots, which are easier to fit on my feet securely than styles like loafers, which fall off my heels. I’m trying to give my sneakers a bit of a break since I’ve been wearing them a lot the past two years and am craving a little change, but I’m not totally feeling boots yet while the weather is still warm.

Two of these are in my holding zone box:
- the Pliner snake print loafers, which I somehow never reach for, but I’m going to make an effort in the coming weeks. I love snake print, but I’m not sure I’m feeling this high contrast print at the moment. I’d almost like to see what they look like with a black/grey finish instead of the black/white.
- the 10+ year old Hush Puppy/Anna Sui oxfords, which are super comfortable but I somehow never wear anymore. They haven’t felt especially current but I’m thinking of hanging onto them because the classic style is bound to feel fresh again, I think?

The hot pink FP flats are so cute and comfortable but the color is such an outlier for me that I rarely wear them. I’ll be challenging myself to give them an outing soon too.

And I still love the other oxfords — the blue Cole Haans and the Clergeries, even though they’re not as stompy as current preferences.

I’ve recently worn the black Free People flats, and the dark green Freda Salvador oxfords got worn yesterday. Here’s my WIW, for a studio visit with a curator. My studio was without AC yesterday so I stuck with a sleeveless top. The morning was cool enough that I wore a jacket to drive in to the city.

What’s your strategy for transitional season footwear? I’m thinking of adding one more pair of clogs or mules (my western Dolce Vita mules from yesterday’s post aren’t in Finds, oops), but otherwise I’d like to wear what I’ve got, if I can make them work for my current preferences. What does the YLf hive mind think? Are the oxfords still looking current enough for me?
