Columbine, I totally feel the same way, about being ready for a different and looser fit, but I guess the slouchy thing is going too far. I'll be waiting to see how the styles evolve, especially if we start seeing some appealing options in a non-cropped length!

My husband does like my BF jeans, but somehow I don't reach for them very often. I find them a bit challenging to style, somehow.

My DH doesn't like my BF jeans, either, and I wear them anyway. It is not always the case, but if I love something, it doesn't matter if he does or does not love it with me. In your case, it sounds like you don't love the look, so it makes sense for your DH to be the deciding vote.

A big factor in my BF love is actually how breezy they are - I am liking short shorts a little less , and I don't always want fabric clinging to me. When DH makes a comment, I just have to tell him he does not understand because no one expects him to wear skin-tight pants all the time!

My husband doesn't like the slouchy trouser either, he said it reminded him too much of the 80s and 90s. However, we agree it's nice to see other silhouettes than just skinny jeans. I don't know if I could wear slouchy trousers but really like the idea of a different and looser fit.

No no. I can wear things the men in my life like, but I can't not wear something disliked.

They all have taste and a highly-refined aesthetic - if they don't come with these things, they will be getting them - my family are the aesthetics police - but not a one does fashion.

They will also have to learn to suffer. That's another family motto. Lol.

Anyways, what were we really talking about? Hehe. Slouchy pants. I like them, but I think they are fringy. Sitting the trend out won't make anyone "out of it," ya know what I mean?

***
ETA: This post sounds like I keep harem. This is not so! But the kith and klan, not just the SO, have strong opinions and I find I have to "just say no." Ya.

Janet, yesterday my 13 yr old daughter had some friends over for a little Chinese New Year celebration. I was making dumplings and they were in the living room. Suddenly, she came into the kitchen and said, "Please, can you ban electronics? Because they are just sitting looking at their ipods and not talking!"

I thought it was cute that she relied on me to be the "bad cop" and establish a boundary.

I guess your hubs is playing my role for you with the slouchy trousers! Now you have full permission to forget this trend.

Which in my mind you had to begin with. No point in wearing something that doesn't tickle your personal style gene! You would look great in them (as you do in everything!!!) BUT that is no reason to try it if you don't want to. You always look current and wonderful and will continue to do so.

My husband has excellent taste and I trust his judgement more than my own at times. He also has an amazing sense of colour mixing to perfection. He hates baggy or slouchy clothes and tells me he thinks they are unflattering on most ladies he sees in them. I agree with him actually, I don't like slouchy clothes either, I prefer a more body con fit with most clothes.

Hehe, my guy did not like them either but in all fairness, he does not like slouchy anything. HOWEVER, I am the daughter of the most rebellious woman, whom kinda mellowed down by now. I was trained to shrug my shoulders and do whatever the heck I want anyway. That's what I did with the BF jeans;)

First off, i want to clarify, I had my tongue firmly in cheek with the man-repeller descriptor, I hope everyone understands! I think it's awesome so many of you have SO's who embrace a look that's ahead of the curve. If hubs were more enthusiastic about my trying it out, I'd probably be in the stores today, but this just puts the brakes on a little bit more for me.

Angie, I am nodding along with all your comments, and i did see your remarks, thanks! Our respective husbands know our style well, don't they?

I do find it interesting that my hubs likes looks that push the boundaries a bit, but this particular thing seems to set off a frumpy vibe to him. I suspect it's the recollection of pleated, high-waisted, or elastic waist pants from the 80s and 90s, and the fact that we know some women who never let that style go and are still in "mom jeans." (It's probably especially significant that one of them is his ex-wife, although we get along with her well, so I don't mean that as a dig! just an observation)

Even though I see how these new cuts are not exactly the same, and I totally agree that the styling makes all the difference, I can also see why he has a poison eye for the style, and why I do too.

It's all good. I don't want to jump on every trend that comes around. This one just seems to be getting a LOT of play here on YLF, so it's a little tough to ignore. I may have to find other ways to keep my style current!

I don't have a full-length mirror so I sometimes rely on DH to evaluate an outfit as a whole. Currently, he feels my new non-classic, unbelted trench needs "waist darts". I am pretty sure it is not meant to be waist defining, but I am also not sure I love it. I value his opinion but he definitely prefers me to waist define and bombshell it up, and he is not on ylf watching/discussing trends the way I am. I need to do a WIW on this one...

I am with you on trusting DH. Mine can never put it into words, but whenever he really likes something on me, it tends to do well when I post here. When he gives me the polite "yes, honey, it looks nice" then I know it is a loser.

Before you completely make the judgement, maybe try on a pair and see what DH thinks in person. If he still isn't a fan, then it is a trend you can enjoy from the sidelines.

Janet, you should go back and read my first comment in the comments section of that post (yesterday's post on slouchy trousers). I also replied back to you :)

FWIW, not all husbands are created equally on this so called man repelling style. My hubs loves my slouchy looks. He thinks they look modern, fresh and attractive. He likes them as much as a pair of tailored skinnies and a form fitting turtleneck. He also loves short hair on women - and found my notorious jodhpur jeans for me. He is not big on the body con look, and also thinks that clothing always looks better just a tad looser. I trust Greg's judgement implicitly. As with so many things, it's horses for courses.

That said, I understand your aversion to this trend a lot better now, Janet. Thanks for sharing your husbands viewpoint on this. His feelings about what you wear matter a great deal, and this makes sense *for you*.

My husband is the same. I usually ask him about the new trends and my outfits and he is very good at giving his suggestions. However, he does not like the new slouchy pants one bit so I guess I will not be buying many.

You know, when my husband doesn't like something I wear, it always dulls the appeal of that thing a little. I don't know what his take is on slouchy trousers, so I can't compare with that, and anyway he and I are normally on the same page style-wise. But the odd time I wear something -- or wear something a certain way, like tucked in! -- that he doesn't like, and although he won't offer an unsolicited opinion, he will say, "that doesn't work" if I ask. And because I generally respect his style sense (as you respect your husband's), I can't help but listen.

Well that makes it easy, doesn't it? No need to stress out over a trend you didn't feel was flattering for you. A few things went that way at my house too. I was trying in vain to like things that I thought would make me look hip or cool (like the Converse sneakers). When I found out that DH wasn't too enamored with the look, it made it a no-brainer to just let them go. No harm, no foul!

At least in my house! ;-)

After all the great discussion on slouchy and baggy pants on Angie's blog post yesterday, I wondered if I should run the looks past my husband to see if the latest styles catch his eye for me. He looked through all the pictures from that post, and the only one he even slightly liked were the white, non-pleated leather pants.

This is the man who picked out the Aiko leather-sleeved sweater and Rag and Bone Newbury booties for me, so I tend to trust him on these things. I will try on a pair of slouchier pants if I find something that appeals to me, but it looks like this may be a trend I'm better off sitting out!
