Thanks for the visuals! 5 through 8 look good to me, but, as you said, they are a little baggy but not that slouchy. To me the more extreme slouchy looks just come off as too big (except for the harem pants which are just weird to me, lol). Maybe my eye will adjust. I think being a petite I am very averse to things looking too big!

They can be slouchy without being very baggy, yes. My slouchy skinny jeans are like that. They ARE, in fact, loose on the waist (that's how they get a dropped crotch point, because they fall down lower). And they are a little bit loose on the hip, rear and thigh. But not what I would call truly baggy. I can grab a bit of fabric and pull it away from my body but not a huge swathe of fabric. Whereas my boyfriend jeans are slouchy AND baggy.

Pics 1/2 slouchy skinnies. A little bit of slouch. Pic 3 BF jean - more slouch (though you can't tell so much because I have belted it to get them to stay up) and baggy.

Okay, Thank you again! I know you've written that slouchy is dropped crotch several times, but it's just now clicking for me. Slouchy and baggy don't have to go together....

So pants can be slouchy without being baggy, right? I see that your jodhpurs are baggy without slouch, but I don't see the other way around - am I missing it?

I think it is very important to fine a level of slouchiness and bagginess you are comfortable with. I personally prefer a slightly dropped crotch point - about 1" maybe. I have 2 pairs like this and 1 pair with much more slouch (2 sizes up) and I feel better in the slight slouch trousers by far.
As for the 'bagginess' I think of it in terms like 'fluidity' and 'drape' - this sounds more flattering than 'baggy', don't you think?:-)

I love Angie's looks put together! Great tutorial.

A few things about wearing pants with a dropped crotch:
- Some sort of heel helps lengthen the legs, although of course your don't have to wear heels
- The rise of the pant is important too. For example, I have a pair of harem pants that work because they have a high rise. But my slouchy skinnies have a lower rise. See what works with your body shape.

I also found Angie's pictures with varying levels of slouchiness and bagginess to be very informative. When I'm able to shop again, hopefully I'll be able to find a pair of slightly looser fit trousers similar to #6 and #7.

Heh, Angie, you did the heavy lifting for me -- it was pics #6 &#7 that held the key: "baggy and just a touch slouchy". I kept the pants, but they only get worn with belts ... for now! Thank you

Hannah, that's a great starting point and I'm glad you've sorted out where you stand with this look for the moment. Well done!

Thanks, Suz. I will also slouch-high-five you :)

Amiable, slouchy means DROPPED CROTCH POINT. Pants can be baggy but not dropped in the crotch. And they don't need to be tapered at the ankles either. My jodphur jeans below are very baggy on the thighs and hips, but the crotch point is in its normal place - so they are *not* slouchy. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you Angie - these visuals help me a lot. I'm still trying to figure out the actual SHAPE of slouchy versus fitted versus skinny trousers (mostly so that I can find something easily alterable into the slouchy silhouette in a thrift store). I agree that when done well it can be really really flattering.

After seeing yours, and another thread earlier this week, I'm thinking that slouchy trousers are big on the hips and thighs, and, well, everywhere but the ankles... And that I'm going to probably just have to start playing with altering too-big trousers and see what happens.

Angie's visuals are perfect! I went through the individual posts and pinned them a while back, but she's done all the legwork for us here. Thanks, Angie!

You know, I bought a pair of slightly dropped-crotch trousers about a month ago. I let them hang in my closet for weeks, eyeing them nervously every morning I got dressed. Every once in a while, I'd wear them around the apartment, but couldn't bring myself to step outside in them.

Conclusion: baggy is stylistically within reach for m. Slouchy: not at the moment. And that's ok too! Who knows, I may come around in a few more months -- wouldn't that be fun?

Perhaps you'll prefer a slight dropped crotch over a more exaggerated one? Here are visuals of my own outfits.

#1 - Harem pants. Excessive dropped crotch. VERY slouchy.

#2 and #3 - Dropped crotch but not as excessive.

#4 - Dropped crotch BF jeans. Sized up 2 sizes.

#5 - Same BF jeans but not as slouchy because I belted them higher on my waist.

#6 and #7 - Baggy but not that slouchy. A very slight dropped crotch point.

#8 - Tailored pants. Although some would think they were a little slouchy. I like my tailored fits looser than most. To my eye, the fit is more flattering and luxurious that way.

Obviously, I think slouchy trousers are flattering - otherwise I would not wear them. As with all things fashion and style, it's a subjective thing. You are within your right to not like a look! But always remember that there are others who might like a silhouette or proportion that you dislike. At the end of the day it's horses for courses :)

I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Okay, please help me understand how to make slouchy pants flattering. I'm referring to the dropped crotch look. I am really trying to understand this trend. I am a late adopter of trends, but normally I can at least understand how they might look good....but the slouchy look seems to be out of my realm!!
