Ok. I'm going to the tailor Saturday and I have one last question. Sorry for being obtuse. The new hem length - should it be a full pant or knee length? I got a little confused with all the different suggestions.

Definitely hem without the ties! They fit really nicely up top! And the color is really great.

It is so funny you posted this, because I have been looking for some pants just like these and was at Dillards looking at a pair from BCBG, I didn't buy them because they had an elastic waist, but they did tie at the bottom. I am aware that I am willing to try styles that most people wouldn't, but I am that way in most things. I venture out there and try a little bit of everything!

I would wear these with a fitted sleeveless(if you feel comfortable)top and some really pretty heels!

I wish someone would swap some pants like this with me!

Ok. I'm considering the hemming project but just want to be clear. Is the vote that I should hem and continue to keep the tie at the bottom of the leg at the new hem length? Or should I be hemming and loosing the tied hem at the bottom?

There are cargo harem pants, Alecia. Sort of.

By all means hem. Add a button down and belt on top.

Ambivalence reigns. I actually thought about having the legs shortened, Shiny. It's intriguing. And I was thinking really hard about it after Angie's post on cargo clamdiggers: http://youlookfab.com/2009/06/.....amdiggers/ (They are true cargos. You just can't see the pockets in the picture.)

I started shying away from it because I'd probably have to buy a shirt for them anyway and can't justify the expense of shirt AND tailoring on these. BUT, I'm also having a hard time letting them go because the silk is so comfy. Maybe it's worth reconsidering the shortening.

I don't think they are anything like the slouchy 80s pants Angie blogged about, and I feel confident saying so since I wore such pants back in the 80s! And even sewed my own!

The style should have pleats (yours do not), high waist (I can't tell but I am guessing they don't - we are talking HIGH waist here, not higher...), and tapering until they are tight at the ankles (yours do not - they are straight and full from the hip, then bunched in with the ties).

I am also thinking they are not really cargo pants either. Yes, they have ties at the bottom, but no pockets, which cargos often have.

Honestly? I am really not sure WHAT style of pants you would call these!! I did have a BR pant sorta similar, but imagine with a lower, tie-waist, and with the length hitting just below the knee, with the same ties. It was a kind of funky/safari look.

That could possibly work, if you are willing to get them hemmed. But I'm thinking they are orphans for a reason.

I agree with Kyle, I am not crazy about the style. They do not have the funkiness of the styles posted. I think there needs to be gathers at the waist that balance the ankle. I am not stating it properly. I am sure Angie can articulate what I mean, although she may have a different take or ideas to make them work.

Not loving the style -- they just don't seem as funky/current as the ones Angie posted. They kind of look like a traditional pant, but the ankle is gathered. Just not working for me. I'd swap them back, Alecia.

I'll be honest i'm not keen. Not sure why, the colour is lovely. Perhaps it's the ties at the ankle? Could just be i'm not used to the look x

They're super interesting and the fabric is so pretty especially in that gold color. They look like something that would be pretty to wear during the holidays with a killer pair of shoes.
I can't answer your question as to whether they are like the slouchy pants Angie showed yesterday in her blog. They actually do not look slouchy really. They seem more fitted in the waist. I do like them on you.

Ok. So I got these at a clothing swap a while back. They're silk from Banana Republic with ties at the ankle and waist and are cargo pants. I had my doubts but the girls suggested I should try them. I figured what have I got to lose? They were free. But they've been wardrobe orphans. Another clothing swap is coming up. I'm contemplating taking them back. But thought I'd check in. Are they anything like the 80s inspired pants Angie blogged about? Even if they are, do they work for me at all?

As always, your input is much appreciated.
