Yes, we do cool down at night - usually! If it is humid, not so much.

I prefer summer dressing and weather. We are having high heat but our climate is usually dry. But it will cool down in a few days-too cool for summer if you ask me.

Ophelia, something like that will absolutely haunt your dreams! The getting “knocked about” is the part about saltwater swimming I like best. I was surprised and soooooooo disappointed recently to learn there aren’t waves in the Baltic, after we went all the way up there.

Ooooh I remember those hot Gulf waters; I loved it then. I was younger, & less hot. The Other Side is cooler w/ fewer sting rays hiding in the sand, but much rougher, much sharkier & harder to swim w/out being knocked about. I could really swim in the Gulf, but that water is soooo very polluted now, & was then.
I had nightmares about alligators from the first day in Florida. All sorts of nightmares. In the worst of them, I tried to pull my cat from its mouth. I never let my cats outside, but there were a couple stealth escapes.
Of course as you know they prefer dogs. Every year, the dog stories. I walked the wretched banks of the Estero river helping a friend look for her lab. He wasn’t out of her sight for more than a minute. We found half of him floating a mile down....

Ophelia, glad to hear you’ve found water cool enough to swim in! I recall the Gulf felt like a big bucket of warm spit (or worse body fluid) this time of year. Alligators on your late-night runs remind me of this shirt. I could never get my kid to wear his, but maybe it’ll make you laugh.

Stagiaire Fash I think that’s what gets me the most, more than the heat steaming on until November, is that it won’t cool down at night. I simply give up on outdoor anything for what has become 5 or 6 months.
I used to run at around 2AM, & I’d see a few others out there, & an alligator or 2,3,4 on the still hot roads (turn around!), but other jobs have forced me to give up my beloved nocturnal ways.
Perhaps more than an evening cool down, I miss the lightening bugs.
Eta: I still swim at night, during shark feeding time, lol. So far so good, &, well, food chain & all that.

Ophelia, you’re referring to how I hated the Florida heat? You are so right that I’m glad to be out of it! One benefit is that I can now enjoy a “normal” summer like I used to. Thanks for reminding me to cherish the other seasons too. Your weather sounds very challenging. Hang in there!

Rachylou, the coldest winter Mark Twain ever spent… you know the quote.

Sloper, eek, that’s hot. Does it at least cool down enough to be pleasant outside at night? Florida did not. I’d come back from a 10 pm walk sweaty & covered in bugs.

Angie, glad you like the outfit & shoes. I suppose white pants wouldn’t be best for smokey days, yikes! I can’t imagine “fire season” ever being part of normal weather patterns. Glad to hear you’re all back to the usual and you can break out the jeans jackets.

RobinF, high five, fellow summer lover!

Suntiger, “Christmas in July” is a thing. “October in summer” should not be. I have some slides, have tried others, can’t find any that stay on my feet if I run or jump around. The new sandals aren’t quite hands free—I have to pull that back strap up a little—but maybe they’ll get there over time.

Preppy Pear, no boots + shorts for you? I remember that was a thing in Austin. I wear size 10 shoes, think I luck out with Pikolinos being shaped just right for my foot, so I can wear their biggest size.

Hang on? How quickly we forget.
Come on back here if you’re feeling chilly, just in time for the suffocating stillness of hurricane season, while “seasonal” Covid sets new records by the day, & suffocating doesn’t just apply to the weather.

Look at how well those new sandals match this outfit. Perfect! I’m glad you found Summer shoes that make your feet happy

Super cute oxfords.

As for the weather here, we are finally back to typical Seattle Summer weather after brutal record breaking heat waves and smoke. I continue to milk my white jeans, large assortment of denim jackets, and dresses!

Hot hot hot here in Michigan! I might actually be ready for fall weather soon just so that heat lets up a bit. This is very unusual for me, I am usually whining about the cooler weather because I love wearing shorts and sandals.

Love your new sandals, sounds like the fit is perfect.

Looks excellent! Love those. I used to have a pair of similar sandals with multicolored straps and indeed, they went with everything. Wore them into the ground! I’d be tempted to order but Pikolinos largest size is too small for me, sob.
The weather here is predictably very hot. When it turns I’ll be breaking out the boots!

We've had kinda weird weather. It's back to our normal humid 90s now, but we had some nights that were 70 and a bit lower a couple weeks ago. It felt like October!
Love the tri color sandals- and big yes to slip on shoes!! That's why I wear slide sandals as long as I can

After much searching and many agonizing posts—I’m truly grateful for all the people who commented and helped me decide—about sandals this summer, this perfect pair happened along recently. Unlike the Eccos, my heel stays on them, and being Pikolinos, they are built to last much better than the white sandals, which I enjoy wearing but don’t expect to have more than a couple seasons. I will not store them just outside our door, like the Pikos that got knicked. They fit perfectly, required zero breaking in, the white, navy, and cognac red straps mean they go with most of my things, and, best of all, I don’t have to unbuckle them but they stay on my feet securely. Plus they were on sale for about 30% off.

I’m wearing them here in almost-70-degree temps, with a suede jacket. Our weather recently took a bizarre turn, and August suddenly feels like October. People immediately jumped into their jeans and jackets, as if they’d been waiting for it. I feel differently and want the summer to hang onnnnnnn. Best I can hope for is a warm fall. Temps are now hovering around 60, so I’ve given in and am wearing pants and my new oxfords, which are also slip-ons. That seems to be my latest thing—shoes I don’t have to fasten.

Has the weather taken an unexpected turn where you are? How are you dealing with it?
