Ha, I just weeded my extensive Skimmies collection because I realized that I seldom wore dresses this summer. A few pairs in light colors will do for me. I hope if I donate them they will be worn - but I have no idea if thrift stores carry these. They represent a lot of money when piled up.

I use and like both, just depends on the garment and its cut/color. Also note that boxer shorts are now available for women, and sometimes those can be even more comfortable.

That’s one way time *has* changed it. Jockey slip shorts aren’t available in blue, but maybe they were when this post was fresh. I got “biking” shorts (not very thick cotton, no chamois) by Champion instead.

Well may as well say how I resolved this I bought Jockey slip shorts. They're definitely lighter weight than my normal bicycle shorts. Would recommend!
Maybe I should try to find a nude to me pair to go under my wrap skirts too.

I wear both for different purposes- slip shorts in summer to prevent chub rub under skirts. Pettipants in winter to serve as a lining to prevent static between wide leg wool pants or skirts, and tights.

I like the short Jockey slip shorts, and the Assets by Spanx low end Spanx version available at Target. The Assets version doesn’t rearrange internal organs like the full strength Spanx at department stores.

I prefer the bike style shorts /slip shorts too! More comfy. Which surprises me because I find wearing leggings uncomfortable. The slip shorts are VERY thin and soft though, which makes the difference (at least for me). Leggings are thick.

Def want them to end at the waist- not below the boobs!
I did see some longer versions of the pettipants, and they had a few rows of lace so you can cut them to the right length.
That cool yellow color sounds a bit odd- maybe it's supposed to be light olive?

Mom gave me some hand me down spanx earlier this year (thanks, Mom, for telling me I need a girdle!) The legs look like bike shorts (no chamois, of course) but the top is really weird. I like high-waisted pants but these come up way past my belly button, like a few inches past it. Didn’t feel that tight when I put it on, but I can’t really tell you if it wears on you, ‘cause I didn’t even have it on for a minute. Just long enough to seee how they fit & ask her what the deal was.
So if you want to try the spanx option, know that some will reach your underboobs.

High five - I wear Cafe Au Lait in Nubian Skin too (although I only have a bralette) lol!

I think it's not just a matter of the depth of the shades being unavailable (although I do acknowledge & therefore struggle with it too) but it's also a matter of the undertones - there's a lot of 'yellow' nude underwear on sale here (given the local population) but it still looks like I'm wearing Day-glo undies if I try it because it's all a very specific, cool toned yellow lol.

To answer your question though, I assume pettipants are similar to the bloomers I wore when I was younger (although those closed at the ends with frilly hems instead of an A-line shape) - honestly most clothes wouldn't lie so well on top of them because they were essentially adding extra fabric (which means your skirt could still get caught between your legs lol). So I think they could work for looser bottoms, but I'd check the fabric to ensure they don't cause any bunching or static.

Personally, I like Uniqlo's body shorts in mauve or as my winter slipshorts (they also have one specific shade of mid brown bra that works for me lol) & Intimissimi's supima cotton bike shorts for the summer. They've released a cotton non underwired padded triangle bra that intrigues me, but am not yet brave enough to actually try whether their 'mid brown' colour bra will actually be nude on me (for fear of disappointment) lol :(

(PS: If anyone else is interested in minimising chafing/ chub rub without having to wear full slipshorts, I've heard 'bandalettes' do a good job of protecting the thigh area without slipping - so you can wear them with your usual underwear).

IMO, they're intended for different things. Slip shorts prevent chafing, underwear lines and color show through, but do nothing in terms of translucency. One can still clearly see the outline of the legs in the light. They don't replace a traditional slip in that sense.

Pettipants act like a traditional slip, except they're split and more comfortable for some. They prevent light show through like a traditional slip, and they also provide more modesty for shorter dresses if seeing up them is an issue. The only disadvantage is they tend to be shorter than traditional slips, so with a longer dress one can get the half-lined look of some inexpensive dresses.

Spanx still makes me think tournaquet! I remember sizing up to like xl so I could breathe when they first came out. Glad to hear they eased up a bit!

I wear the thin nylon pettipant type because I dislike wearing tight, stretchy things on my legs in the summer and prefer something breezier, but this is very much a personal thing. I do have a couple of pairs of the bike short style for skirts where the volume of the pettipants would get in the way.

I wear them for chafing reasons but for see through skirts my hunch would be that the pettipants would work better anyway because it wouldn’t outline your legs as much, if that makes any sense. Or even just a regular skirt slip. I *think* with bike shorts you might still see the outline of your legs under the skirt. They’d be clothed but in a nude for you color I don’t know if that would be obvious?

I wear and LOVE the Jockey version, and I have them in lots of colors, but that variety seems to have vanished - boo! A friend swears by Thigh Society and they have a broader range of skin tones. But ouch, they're spendy.

The good news is that this kind of underwear lasts forever. I put mine in a lingerie bag, toss them in with a regular load, then hang dry. I acquired them slowly, on sale, and haven't bought more in a few years.

I tried pettipants some years ago (from Amazon), but I didn't like the loose fit. I want something close fitted like panties, but not tight anywhere.

Thank you! Even insisting on darker nude colors when people are tanner would help!

The thing is, that it's not seen much in stores, so people don't know to insist on it. I was in Nordstrom one day, and asked for the pecan color. The clerk, light skinned Black but similar to me, did not know it existed. I showed it to her on the website and she was like "wow I need that." It wasn't available in the store at all. Even still, when there are medium colors, there are limited styles. No matter the style there is always very light beige and black, but most of us are in between. Even Celtic DH is darker than the beige most brands offer!

Will look at the Jockey ones Toban!

ETA I’m sorry to hear Nordstrom’s is moving backwards. I just checked the Rack to see if they have that color—they don’t even carry Nubian Skin! I’ve just bought some bright-colored lingerie over the past few months. The next time I need some and don’t care if it’s nude for me (i usually don’t), I will get pecan, cinnamon, chocolate, bronze, just to add a tiny bit to the demand for darker shades.

I like the jockey cooling slip shorts and wear them in summer under dresses if I plan a lot of walking. They are very thin and I don’t feel any hotter in them than I would in regular undies and often feel cooler simply because of wicking. They are much thinner and cooler than bike shorts and not opaque enough on their own. Different lengths and colors are available. I have black and beige.

I have a Nubian slip- the cafe au lait color is a good one for me. They used to have it at Nordstrom but no longer do. Often what I find is the medium colors are redder or tauper, and I need a lighter version of cognac.
I found a nude to me bra at Target once. That was a happy unexpected find I swear I made a beeline from the shoe section when it caught my eye- lol!

It is Much better than it was. The main trouble is that the browns haven't been consistent, so I have to start from scratch each time.

I know nothing about slipshorts--never could do a decent cartwheel. But I agree with you on skin-colored garments. It's discouraging to hear that they are hard to find; I had thought things had gotten much better since Nubian Skin started up and Target started making sure they had skin colored offerings. This is an older article, and not about the item you need, but maybe some of the brands will carry shorts for you. The second article is even older, but contains more brands. Also, the site they are from, The Lingerie Addict, is the creation of a Black woman and regularly features items darker than coffee creamer. I can't find the kind of shorts you're looking for on it, but maybe you'd enjoy the site for other things.

https://www.thelingerieaddict......pping.html https://www.thelingerieaddict......-in-2015.h

I thought the bike short type might be hotter, and stickier to get on and off than the pettipants. I could try normal bike shorts under it in the meantime.

It could be an idea to find a nude color too, for my batik skirt (teal)- but that'll be an odyssey :/ #brownunderwearmatters
