Kelly, Meredith and Laura - thank you for your input. As only one of the shoes was too tight on the instep (the other was fine) and they were my 4th try at getting silver slip ons I went ahead and took off the tags. I looked up the potato trick-- didn't have a potato large enough here at home but I did try the wet foot method. Squelched around in them yesterday and they were improved. I will see how they feel today

Laura I had to persevere a bit after Nordies sold out but finally found them on a site called dress code. The sale code this weekend is "cool dude" lol they still have small sizes

BrieN, I've seen Body Glide at REI, in the bicycle department. I guess riders use it for chafing.

I have these and love them. They stretched a little in width but that's it. They were snug at first but now are perfectly molded to my feet.

I also have the same pair and wore them a lot in the last year. I don't think they'll stretch the way you want them to. Sorry!

I have to ask, where did you buy them? They are killer; I'm such a sucker for Vans.

I would tend toward thinking they will not stretch enough. IME, metallic leather is not as stretchy as regular leather and I wouldn't want to risk a shoe never becoming comfortable.

Thanks for the replies! This is helpful.

AngelaK - I haven't heard about Angie's potato trick, but am now intrigued...

Suz -- They say they are leather...but wow, whatever they are made of is very stiff. I looked for the elusive body glide in the grocery store today - I guess I'll order it from amazon.

marianna - have you worn them a lot? You are definitely giving me pause. I don't love the idea of spending more $ to have them stretched at the cobbler.

Angie and Tanya - that's kind of what I thought.

Are they leather? And is the goring elastic? The elastic will usually soften with wear and the leather may stretch but you can also try pre-stretching a bit, or wear them around the house with socks on to stretch and break in (and not give your feet blisters). I always get blisters and need to remember to use body glide and sometimes even bandaids on my heels. This is because my heels are narrow so shoes shift on me, even in the correct size. I actually had to buy my slip on sneakers technically a half size "too small" in order to get them to stay on. They were not comfortable for the first two wears but stretched out beautifully. They are a different brand than these but also leather.

I don't know about these particular shoes but it has been my experience that if a shoe squeezes my instep I won't wear it enough for it to stretch. If I try to wear any shoe that puts pressure on my instep it gives me horrendous foot cramps. Cute shoes but not worth the pain to me. Maybe if you tried Angie's potato trick to stretch them some before you wear them?

I can not help you with that specific pair, but I have a couple of pairs of slip on sneakers and they have definitely stretched out. The size of the effect is proportionate to the amount of wear, the pair stretched out the most is my favorite one that I wear very often.

In my attempt to purchase clothes for a life I am actually living, I purchased these sneakers (albeit from a different retailer -- is it ok to post them even though I had to buy them elsewhere because they were sold out?)

Anyway, they are tight in that they squeeze the top of my instep. I was going to return but I read a few posts where you all have mentioned your slip on sneakers stretching out over time. I wondered if the goring might "give". Is this something that's so normal I can expect it? Any guidelines that might help me determine if this particular pair might stretch?
..This is my 4th pair of silver slip ons purchased/returned this spring...
