I think I still prefer the snakeskin. The Madden's look a bit Jackson Pollock and not as much your style, but you are clearly drawn to them and they would work.

That's right, Mo. A full size up with insoles works for me. My toes still seemed close to the ends of the shoes in a half size up. I don't get the feeling these shoes will give and stretch much -- the pony is substantial and a little stiff at first, although I can feel it softening a little with wear. I think I am getting more sensitive to comfort these days.

So the Maddens you went up a full size with insoles? Would you say a half size up would work without them? I wear a 7.5 or 7 and wonder if I should order an 8. I wear 7.5 in my Asics running shoes and 7's in lots of sandals due to my somewhat short toes.

Well, once again Zappos delivered in incredibly quick time, and the new sizes of both the Maddens and the Via Spigas arrived this morning. I find it a really good policy to try on shoes at different times of day! Yesterday's try on happened in the afternoon, after I'd been for a run, and today's early in the day before I had been on my feet much.

I'm happy to say that comfort seems to be outstanding in the Via Spigas -- I also decided to try the 8s with an insole to see if I should stick with the original size. The insole definitely helped them fit my feet better. The 7.5 fit perfectly, but once I had the insole in the 8, I started to wonder if I'd prefer the insole version, because the closed shoe might feel a little sweaty in warm weather.

Sizing up in the Maddens was a good move. With an insole, they fit great in a 9. They are slightly stiff and not quite as cushy-comfortable as the VS, but definitely doable on a comfort scale.

So now I'm torn. I love the comfort of the VS, and I think the reptile pattern is really wearable with all kinds of outfits. But I love the Maddens too and think they would be fun with my black and white outfits, as well as looks with solid colors or color blocking. I'm not much of a pattern mixer.

It's possible I'll end up keeping both. I'm leaning heavily towards keeping the VS, although I need to decide on the size dilemma. Fortunately, Zappos has a great 365 day return policy, so I can hang onto the Maddens and see if I start reaching for those as well. I'm uncertain whether I should really keep two pairs of these, since I lean so heavily on sandals in our hot, sticky summer weather, but I really like them both. Hmmmm.....

Here are full-length pics, since Rae asked. Please don't judge the styling -- I just threw the shoes on with what I was wearing to do laundry and straighten up the house this morning (rolled jeans and my stepsons' band tee).

I like #3 but that is just personal preference. #1 is nice too. I prefer the patterns to the solid. They are more interesting and because they are neutral patterns, they should be pretty versatile.

#1 first, 3# next; #2 is good style but agree the color is actually too bland. I think it is the color + canvas--loses the richness of a nude leather. Whereas a bright color sneaker looks happy.

Conversely (!), in fabric it seems there can be more pattern and contrast without being too bossy, and especially if dark+ light it "reads" as mid-range. That is what I noticed about the striped Roxy sneakers I posted--not nude, but not stark contrast, either.

I agree that the Maddens are my fave, with the Via Spigas in second. The Sperrys read as too low-contrast, and in the shape of a slip-on sneak, IMO, they verge on frumpy. I say if a person is going to embrace this trend, do it wholeheartedly and go with higher contrast, fun prints!

Just in terms of how they "look" -- I am personally drawn to #1/2 and #5/6 (in that order). I think there is enough white or lightness in each of these so as not to read "high contrast". Of the two of them, #5/6 reads least contrast. I agree with you that the Sperrys (#3/4) might be a little too subtle a look. They sort of read beige/nude on my screen, although I know they are really a muted gold. (And, yes, some of the Sperrys seem to run a bit narrow in the toe box -- but I find they stretch with wear.)

For low contrast, I love the look of the Via Spiga's. The colors are subtle but they have visual interest with the pattern.

The Sperry's just seem to kind of "disappear" on you due to the low contrast.

I like the Steve Madden but comfort is key. Although trying the other size might be worth it.

Ohhhh, I love the eccentrics! They do need to be comfortable, though.

I thought I'd share my thoughts about the three pairs of slip-on sneakers I decided to try. Zappos delivered in near-record time, so I was thrilled I got to try these on today:

1-2 Steve Madden Eccentric - this is a half size up from my usual and still borderline too small. I love how they look, but worried about comfort. Wondering if it might be worth going up a full size.

3-4 Sperry Mariner Gore - great for low-contrast with my skin tone and the sparkle is subtle, but these are almost too subtle for me. Comfort is not bad, but a slight pinch on my left (larger) foot. TTS

5-6 Via Spiga Galant - wins the comfort award, and I like the snake print, but these are a little too big on me. I ordered a half size down to see if they work.

What do you all think of how these look? I like the Maddens more than I thought I would - I might try a size up. Any other suggestions? As you can see, I want something neutral and not too high contrast with my pale legs
