Thank you! You've gathered all the evidence for me. I haven't shopped much at J Crew, but Anthropologie has a LOT of high-waisted clothing. I have a couple of Anthropologie jackets with belts that are too high, and I've just cut off the belt carriers. Other items need a bit of tailoring. Dresses with higher waists also tend to pouf out a bit in front, but I do NOT need to emphasize my tummy! Empire cut dresses frequently empathize the smallest part of the torso and conceal muffin top, which is appealing to many women. This is not the case on someone like me who is (like you) high waisted and has a bit of bust. This look tends to make me look like I have an even longer rise, which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I have only one friend who looks good in this style, she has a really long torso and a very small bust. I know there are small busted women who also don't look great in this look, I think it has more to do with torso length and proportions rather than bust size. However, I've noticed for the past couple of seasons that most dresses are a little bit high-waisted too; even higher than my natural waist, although not empire-waisted. The waistline seems to land at the bottom of my ribcage. I find this terribly frustrating, especially because I love to wear dresses. I also have a large bosom, so empire waistlines make me look like a nursing mother. Does anyone have an explanation for this high-waist fashion? Who does it look good on??
