Thanks you guys! No tailoring will occur. Which is good, since now I can wear my new warm-climate winter coat when I go to chilly Ontario next week.

I wouldn't want them any longer, but I would wear this sleeve length without hesitation. As some others pointed out, long sleeves on outerwear is more acceptable. I like mine on the long side for coats.

I think they are a correct length for the coat - I prefer mine to reach the thumb base (which rarely happens with my arm length - high five Inge )

Agreeing with Unfrumped that they're about the longest you'd want them to be for the benefit of the observer, but sleeve length is kind of sensitive and subjective.
I like the look of longer sleeves on winter coats, especially with gloves which I wear as soon as I'm not the only one, but if it's outerwear that's more lightweight, I really don't like to have my hands covered, or material crumpling around my wrists.

I'm the same height as you. Too tall/ long for petites but short for a lot of other pieces. I like cold weather outerwear to have slightly long sleeves, because it's a little warmer. I would wear this sleeve length.

Thanks!

Inge, I think this is one of those grass is always greener issues - I'm 5' 4" on a good day, so I rarely have an issue with sleeves being too long.

Although, come to think of it, one of the reasons I don't usually wear petites is the sleeves are too short - so - maybe I am a gorilla? Long arms, short legs?

I like them this length, CF, and would be thrilled if I could find more coats that were that long for me:-)

I just had another look at Angie's blog post from a while back on how to fit a coat. She said: "I like coat sleeves to end an inch over my wrist bone for extra cozy
coverage. Make sure that the sleeves look graceful and aren’t too wide."

To me they look about the longest you'd want without being too long, IYKWIM. And that may be the best.
I agree that outerwear has a little more leeway and needs it, for laytering. Also the coat itself is nicely fitted and the sleeves are too, so it doesn't look sloppy at all, looks very nice and trim.
I know about holding the phone for pics, but also just evaluate it moving around, moving arms, carry a handbag--my sleeves always ride up and it's hard to find the sweet spot that looks perfect with arms hanging straight down and arms in motion. In motion the sleeve will certainly be higher. I probably would not spend any $$ to alter because it seems like it would be such a tiny change and may then look too short! The only issue is whether they "bother" you--mine can bother me as to how they feel if restrict thumb motion constantly.

It looks ok to me. It may be about a half inch too long. I'm sure that Angie had some sleeve length guidelines. Isn't the length to hit the first thumb joint just above where it joins the hand? Or maybe that is for blazers and indoor jackets.

Hi everybody! I am dropping in after a long time away to ask for help. (Although I have been lurking ...)

Are the sleeves on this coat too long? If so, how much too long? I know they would be too long for an indoor jacket, but outerwear is different, right?
