Angie, do they even make these any more? I feel like I only see them in vintage clothing stores nowadays.

I'm actually an inverted triangle. I think I was once an hourglass, but having a large family changed my waist forever. I'm a 4-6 in the hips and a 10-12 in the waist. I'm not overweight... just shaped funny. LOL

It's funny that Old Navy and Target were mentioned more than once because those are the places I've had the most luck. I guess I'll keep checking those stores.

Thanks for the other suggestions.

I have similar problems. I love skirts but they either are too tight in waist or too full at my fullest part making me look balloonish.
I find modified A-lines that glide over the hips excellent, straight styles can work, stretchy is key as a set woven waist rarely works.
I have this and LOVE it (somebody else posted about it and I found it in store by chance)
http://www.anthropologie.com/a.....lateType=E
I guess it's time to start posting photos since I have a few new ones that seem to work as well.

Maybe brands that carry skirts that are a bit casual and meant to be worn on the high hip (vs. at the proper waist)?

There is a particular Calvin Klein cargo skirt that has a very straight shape to it. I don't know if cargo works for you or not http://cgi.ebay.com/Sexy-CALVI.....33689fe778

I also did get a black casual pencil shaped skirt from Old Navy that was quite straight in shape - perhaps a lower rise is what makes it less of a difference in hip to waist measurements.

Brenda I think it depends on the type/shape of skirt you are looking for; some are going to have extra width in places you don't want, and some won't. My measurements are similar in proportion (36 hip 27 waist I think, though I definitely have a defined waist) and I tend to look for flared or a-line skirts for exactly this reason, because the width at the hip is built into the design. But a pencil skirt will also look great. I'm not a big skirt girl, so hopefully others can help with what shapes to look for

Hmmm. Sounds like you have an hourglass shape? Could you look for skirts in a drapey fabric or jersey, like the one I'm wearing today? That way it will flow over your hips instead of standing away or making your hips look bigger.

I am an "apple" and have managed to hide and camouflage it with strategically placed belts, tucking and ruffles. I can't say I have "no" waist because my waist is there, it is just very wide :). I am not complaining; it is a fact of life and I've learned to embrace it instead of fighting it.

Anyway to get back to your question, I've bought several skirts at Old Navy and Target this spring that worked out very nicely. I look for straight pencil skirts because I find full skirts impossible to style with my "apple" middle.

I'm needing skirts and am having trouble finding ones that work. My hips are 36in. while my waist is 30in. For so many skirts, by the time I find one that fits in the waist, the hips are huge. Any suggestions for where I should look?
