I was going to suggest hairspray. My problem with any kind of spray is the scent. Also, I'm not sure I'd like the feel of it on my legs. The smell of it, along with the thought of a sticky residue on my skin, really turns me off. Even when I spray my hair (which I rarely do anymore), I go all the way outside to do it. Lotion is available unscented, and feels good against my skin.

I have tried the lotion trick as well as the safety pin trick. The safety pin kept tugging at my hose no matter how I positioned it; thankfully the hose was net-like so there were no runs. Sometimes I even rub a little lotion on top of the hose under the skirt, just a smidge, when the cling seems to re-appear through the course of the day. Works quite well.

LOL MrsEccentric, you're funny! You're quite right; I'm not looking for images of air vents.

I'm not crazy about the idea of rubbing lotion all over my tights (doesn't it rub off on the skirt?) but maybe I'll give the static spray a try. Shipskitty, that's a neat idea about the safety pins -- I'll definitely give that a go.

Thanks again everybody for the suggestions!

hmmm. turns out you want to search for 'slips with slit':

http://tinyurl.com/77qccrf

rather than 'slip with vent:

http://tinyurl.com/7zvscvb

FWIW, slips are incredibly easy to make. You can safety pin the top of the slit to the seam allowance along the top of the skirt vent to keep the slip in the right place during the day.

CocoLion, i know a lot of ladies who use those dryer sheets that way! i've never tried that, i just make myself some slips out of thrifted silk crepe de chine blouses. add some lace and you're tres swank!

has anyone tried wearing one of these uber-chic grounding wristlets? (image courtesy wikipedia) steph

I was reading on another blog today where someone suggested putting a metal safety pin or two on the inside hem of the skirt where they won't show (so they can touch the pantyhose as you walk around and diffuse the static).

I haven't tried this myself yet but thought it might be worth a try - not a lot to lose - would be a cheap and easy solution if it works.

I have rubbed a laundry sheet on my legs to reduce static. It sort of works. I used to keep a few laundry sheets in my desk drawer for this. I've also used Static Guard which I think is what Christineanne is talking about. The spray worked a little better but I didn't care for the smell.

Never tried the lotion -- good idea! I have this problem with silk and silk-type blouses, will apply lotion prior to wearing them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a short slip, but it doesn't work; the tights cling to the bottom part of the skirt and it rides up. Maybe a slip with a vent -- I didn't know those existed. Lyn, I had thought of getting a lacy slip that is meant to show. I think that will be my plan of attack, if I can't find a slip with a vent. If it works for you, it'll work for me!

ChristieAnn -- is Static Cling some kind of laundry spray? I don't use laundry sheets or spray normally, as we have enough moisture in the air that static is rarely a problem. You'd think that this would mean that I wouldn't have the skirt cling problem either, but nooooo.

Back in the day when I had to wear pantyhose to work, I would always wear a slip. I used to own slips that were specifically designed to be worn with skirts that had slits so that the slip would not show.

If wearing a slip is out of the question, and it isn't always possible with a vent, I would apply light hand or body lotion to my pantyhose in the area the skirt or dress was clinging to. This always stopped the cling, and no one was the wiser.

Also, if you have a run in your pantyhose but it's in an area where it doesn't show, just apply some clear nail polish. That will stop it from running any further.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

I have this problem all winter long and I usually solve it by wedging a slip in between my hose and skirt. However, I have a couple of kneecap-covering A-line skirts with a front vent that I can't do this with, because the hem of the slip shows in the vent. Any ideas on how to solve the problem? I'd really like to wear these skirts in non-bare-leg weather. Would it look OK if I got a slip with a lacy hem and just let it poke out? Or is there some other kind of slippery undergarment that I don't know aobut?
