I think it's a lovely print and there is nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't think bumble bee. It's definitely not a color scheme I am drawn to but I don't have much black in my wardrobe. I think it would go nicely with the colors you mention.

I've admired this in person several times. It is lovely! The color doesn't read bumble bee at all to me. It is very botanical. Very crisp. I've actually been eyeing it for some time as a replacement for a favorite JCrew skirt that I shrunk out of. Would you feel better if we both took the leap together? I'm ready!

FWIW, I don't think this skirt is hanging around because it is ugly or poorly made. I just think it takes a little courage to buy it. It makes a statement. I, though, think the statement is fab!

Okay, that reassures my FOBTI--"fear of being taken in" (to distinguish from FOBT!). Thank you for input.

The print is a good scale, expecially because of its kind of lacy effect. I agree, that while it's got a lot of black going on, the overall effect is definitely more muted than graphic B&W, and that is my color palette and tonal preference and what I was going to capitalize on with "softer" neutrals. Also like Janet's suggestion to try medium denim and chambray shirts, which I do use to extend wear to a sort of smart casual use of pencil skirts .

Well, I shall play around a bit further with it, especially to see if I can make outfits with nude leg and the right footwear for summer work-wear, which is the hardest look for me to get right. Cold spring and fall are easier.

I don't see why it would be a reject based on the style and print, not at all. If the background is an off-black, I think that would only prevent wearing it with black tops -- instead I'd go for grey, white, chambray, maybe cream...

I have a bit of a sugar eye for illustrated botanicals, so some inherent positive bias but that said I think would work with many neutrals and could be very versatile. Is that a scale of pattern that you are comfortable with?

I mostly buy clearance, and I think as long as you carefully evaluate and try on the items in person, there aren't really more potential pitfalls than full price items.

Sometimes items that have more character end up there because there is probably greater demand for basics in neutrals in season. Sometimes it's a mislabelled fit issue, the medium is really a small, you need to go two sizes down than the usual, etc. Sometimes it's a garment care issue (dry cleaning required for something that isn't outerwear). Or it's a wearability issue, a top that is cropped length even though it doesn't appear that way on the model, transparency that's hard to work around with camisoles/undergarments. Or the color isn't accurate in the online photo so it gets returned, etc.

I just got some waxed look burgundy cropped skinnies at BR Factory on clearance, and am totally pleased with them--and the price.

I like this skirt! My only concern is that one negative review said the background was a faded black. The other (glowing) reviews did not mention this, so I suspect it is a flat black and not a deep black IYKWIM, and IMHO a flat black would suit you better anyway.

Okay, was just trying to be catchy.

I like this skirt from BR as it has a nice pencil fit, and I have a sugar eye for printed skirts. The citron color in the print is unusual for me, but the other colors, black, gray, olive, off-white, and tan--comprise a lot of tops in wardrobe (just about everything other than the berry colors) , so I have anywhere from 6-12 tops that work with it (depending on how cozy a knit is used, long or short sleeved tops, etc ) and several jackets. It can skew toward either black or nude/gray footwear and looks really good with black tights but will work with nude hose as well--that is a feature that helps make a skirt more versatile in my wardrobe. So it would be targeted as a 3-1/2 season skirt, using different colors and styles of tops and footwear and tights to read as spring, summer, or fall.

However, it was also featured with some sarcastic words in a photo of "unsold' merchandise in a piece about how badly BR was doing financially (which surprised me) . There was another skirt in the photo, too, so maybe that was the target!

I am trying to be aware of the warning signs of seasonal rejects or why certain merchandise is hanging around, but not be afraid to like what I like.

Do you see something off or weird about this skirt? I think it could read "bumblebee" to some, but I felt there was enough variety in the print colors and tones so it did not feel that way to me, and I won't be wearing it with citron or bright yellow.

I realize now maybe I could have linked this to Statement Skirt. I was not trying to make a big statement, but, it is not a shy neutral skirt.

Comments and observations welcome.
