PG, I also cannot wear kitten heels nor should I wear skirts below the calf due to possible tripping. I really prefer my skirts just above the knee or in the middle of the knee. Although the Halogen cobalt skirt I got at NAS is just below the knee and find I am having trouble adjusting to the loss of leg length.

I also only wear flats and have been wearing midis for a couple of years. However, I consider shoes with a loafer-like stacked heel 1.5" or less to be flats, because they feel like flats to my foot. Same with platforms if the heel part is only slightly raised from the rest, though I don't really wear platforms anymore. I can't wear kitten heels at all, or anything higher than 1.5".

Lately I've been seeking out pointy toes because I think it looks nicer than the usual ballet flat. I'm also loving the preppy penny loafer look for the first time since high school. Yesterday I picked up a pair of Toms-like shoes and plan to wear them with a skirt today. The skirt is just below the knee, so maybe that's shorter than what you're asking about. Will post a pic later! I did post a pic a while back with the VC tube midi and some new pointy oxfords I just found.

I have always felt that it is not just the length of the skirt but the overall proportions of the outfit that make flats work. For most of us we are keen to create a "long" look but I feel the outfit as a whole contributes to this.

Saw this on an Oprah post a while back. There are 2 flats shown with a midi skirt. They are a menswear style and a pointy flat as shown in the link. I think Anna's shoes are an example of a menswear style.

I think it all depends on the type of midi, and the length as I just learned midi can be anywhere from just below the knee to just enough above the ankle to not look like your maxi shrunk. I also think just below the knee looks good on almost everyone. a classic look is a fuller skirt that is just below the knee with high boots for a winter look. Also just a few months ago there were many things on blogs about mid calf being hard to work with and, of course, the biggie about making legs look too short.
I am, though, having a problem with getting used to booties that are anywhere to about an inch above ankle to maybe 4 inches above ankle or so, worn with above the knee skirts, with all those inches of bare leg. Somehow this just doesn't sit well with me. I only see it on here, blogs, and pinterest. This look is not popular in my area,, but it is still very warm and sandals are still the way to go.

Sveta, most of the pins are above the knee or to the floor.

Anna, I think yours looked good to me because of the slit up the front. I see more leg therefore creating a longer leg line.

I hope Angie weighs in on this.

If you want to wear flats or flat boots with midi skirts, I think the 'pointy toe' trend will go a long way toward avoiding any hint of frumpiness. If you have stylish, on-trend shoes - flat or not - the midi will not look frumpy at all.

What do you think? Pick flats that are very stylish and somewhat 'trendy' and the midi skirts will be fab.

I don't know what the official rule is, but my thought is that of course you can wear midis with flats, but you're just not likely to look as leggy. That is the case whenever you choose flats over heels. But I still wear flats 8 days out of 10.

For footwear, it all comes down to personal preference, but I'd avoid anything too classic and traditional. So instead of a round toe ballet flat, I'd go for one with a pointed toe. Or try some modern lace up oxfords, or boots.

I am only able to wear flats and have a question on skirt lengths after the midi skirt length discussions posted recently. It used to be midi length skirts and dresses had to be worn with heels unless you wanted to look matronly. Although I am a grandma, I would rather not dress like one so can anyone help me with this? What are the new rules?
