The confusion is probably because skater skirts became trendy around the same time as Skater Punk music, which as we know is connected to skate boarding and not ice skating. These skirts were trendy in the 80s as well but they were called Rara skirts back then, probably from the cheerleaders who wore them on sports fields. Skater skirts in the 00s may well have been low waisted like everything else at that time. With my casual life, it will work in a lot of environments, and be especially good for the heat.&nbsp;</p> <p>I had always thought "skater skirt" referred to skateboarding, and I was puzzled, because it seems like a difficult thing to wear while skateboarding. Nevertheless, I thought it was an "alternative" item you might style with Vans sneakers or pink hair.</p> <p>Finally tonight, looking at scads of them online, I realize it more closely resembles an ice skater's skirt. Which is a totally different vibe--graceful, dancing, spinning. This is what "skater skirt" MUST be referring to. </p>
