Thanks Angie! I need to play with the lenght and see if I can use a belt and use it as a midi. For winter, I am planning to use so e suede boots and it should work ok.

Zaeobi, I'm glad you like it! It drapes well and hopefully by this winter I will have further slimmed down and will be able to add layers.

That's a cute skirt - do you have an extra you could send me? Haha just kidding :P

It seems to drape well on you, but how does it feel? If you want to wear it in the winter, you may want to leave some extra room to layer tights or longjohn's underneath it. How does it feel with the tops? Personally I like the black one better because the white one is slightly see through, but they're both nice

Thanks Phoebe! Sandro does some nice tops, I have been collecting a few during the last years during the sales.

Here's my replacement of the black skirt. It's made of recycled plastic bottles, it feels like a thick silk material and I think I could use it during the autumn and winter season. Few months ago, this skirt would have not fitted as I was a bit big and I hope that in the next coming months it will be a bit looser. I think it can be a good start, I can imagine it with a jumper and suede boots or with the pictures that I took today.

I am sorry for the bad pictures, the camera of my mobile phone is not super great.

Any suggestions or feedback is welcome!

@Liz, thanks for the explaination! I think it is also a matter of confidence to wear a pencil skirt that skims the body, I try to shy away from figure fitting pieces. I do think I understand the reasoning, I just need to get my head around!

@zaeobi, thanks for the analysis and for sharing the picture! I do think you have a more romantic vibe than me! Looking at the picture, I'd say the green skirt is bias cut, which drapes as Liz also explained.

Some of the skirts that I listed have been sold out (4,5 and 9!) but it has still been helpful to listen to the comments and suggestions, as I was able to notice some common points that will help me worth the search:

- use pattern to hide humps and bumps
- as I have a short torso, avoid paper bags
- soft material that drapes well works well for curvy pears
- add softness to the structure

I ordered two skirts, hopefully one will be a winner!

I hope you don't mind me attaching a photo, but I'm hoping that seeing a longer skirt on my pear-shaped body (with slight hourglass tendencies when I've lost weight) can help you to better visualise what I'm about to say:

Personally, I find that A-line skirts with *good drape* are the most important factors for me. You'll see that my skirt isn't completely straight but it's not *poofy* either. So the last 3 skirts you attached (camel, mustard & red) are lovely in theory, but may be a little too stiff in reality. You may be more 'classic' than me (I think I err towards 'romantic', but unsure) but I think the softness of the bow may end up looking more like an 'add-on' to the stiff material of the skirts, rather than a well-integrated feature. And as far as I understand, 'classic' types need all of the features of their 'clothing' to flow well, otherwise it starts to look too 'maximal' as if you have too many 'extras' in your outfit. Does that make sense?

With that in mind, I think the skirts #3 & #4 are examples of bows that may lay quieter against your body & work harmoniously with (rather than interfere with) your body & style.

That said, waistband size matters. You'll see that I've gone for a simple style in a narrow to medium width. I cannot do wide belts because I have a short torso. If you're the same as me, then I'd recommend skirts #1 & #6 (I find pleated skirts look great so long as they're 'knife pleats' or 'sunburst pleats' - any box pleats are usually too stiff unless you're more of a dramatic type). On the other hand, skirt #5 draws attention to the waistband because of the different direction to the print there - the main skirt print seems flattering because it draws the eye 'inwards'.

So lastly, I think skirt #2 could be great if you have a long enough torso to suit a wide waistband (& it's in the colours you like). Skirt #1 however is the winner for me, because of how the pleats wrap over to create added softness to the structure (if you're worried it may fly open on a windy day, you can always add a popper button to hold the inner layer shut). BUT you will need to check whether the waistband works for you (it looks like it's on the thinner side, but you also need to think whether the rhinestone detailing is too 'maximal' for your classic style). Are you ok with the fact that you likely would not be able to wear a belt with this skirt?

Hope that analysis helps!

I"m a heavy pear shape as well, and skirts like #9 (pencil skirt) are very flattering. I often have to fit the hips, and then take the waist in, but that's the nature of being a pear. I find skirts most flattering when they skim my body (pencil skirts) or are soft enough to fall back against my body (like it appears that #4 would do). I stay away from wrap skirts, or sew them shut, because my heavy lower half means they slide open pretty badly when I sit down.

Colorwise, these skirts will go with a lot of different tops and look lovely -- no problem there. It's just the proportions that will be tricky when you try to pair it with a lot of different tops, unless the tops all have similar shapes and lengths, or you tuck them all in.

Thank you all! It seems that the skirts 2, 4, 5 and 9 have the most votes!

The red skirt nr 9 is a straight cut... Does it really work well for pear shapes?

@suntiger, thank you for the explaination! It makes sense!

@Janet, wow, you have a beautiful collection of skirts! I don't feel particularly comfortable in a skirt but I want to challenge myself and find a cut that works with my body shape, I am heavy everywhere (hips, thighs, calves) and have a short torso. The black skirt that I have is made in a heavy cotton material, A-line shape and it just doesn't fall in the right places, maybe because it doens't sit right. Gosh, I am not selling myself well!

@Liz, I may be looking for the holy grail, but I'd like to try to find a skirt that goes with as many tops as possible. Tricky, I know, but one has to aim high!

I like all your skirts, but the biggest question is, What top will you wear with each one? Getting the proportion and cut of the top to play well with the skirt is the biggest reason that I struggle with skirts.

Just looked at the skirt photos you posted and I think any of them could work, depending on fit, length, and what you plan to wear with them. And of course your personal style goals, since you mention wanting to evolve your style but you’re not sure of direction yet. I particularly like 4, 5, and 9, and 1 could be good too. Paper bag waists might not be super flattering unless you have a long torso (mine is super short and busty so they are a firm no for me).

I have pear-ish tendencies (hips and thighs carry extra weight, not so much tummy or booty), so I understand how much of a role flattery can play! To Suntiger’s point, I have more of an X shape (saddlebags are my issue, not high hip), so gentle A-lines with drape can work for me.

I wonder if your black skirt may be too high contrast with your tops? Even though I love a good black skirt, I think the most elongating, flattering outfits are often more tonal and not high contrast.

I am a big fan of printed skirts because the patterns can help keep the eye moving around, and to hide lumps and bumps. I am not usually a fan of pleated or gathered styles because they add volume where I don’t need it. The exception is when the fabric drapes very well and doesn’t add bulk.

I think asymmetric hems and wrap styles can be really flattering — any diagonal lines created can help create a longer leaner line. I also take the hem of long almost-maxi skirts and tie a knot on one side to create a sort of faux-high-low asymmetric effect — it helps rein in some of the volume and adds that vertical integrity.

Here are some of my skirts/dresses, just for some visuals.

I think the shape of 5 and 9 would work well. You may want to do a search for tulip hem skirts too.
Pears with the widest part lower (so like x rather than 8) can do a lines better than high hip shapes.

I know most people love pleated skirts. I find they add alot of volume but I am more apple than pear. I have been told the secret to getting pleated skirts to 'lie flat' is to size up, not sure if this applies to pears either. I have no recommendations due to our shape differences, but do recommend lightening up the color palette. I prefer black only at night in summer. I know many love black in all seasons.

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all keeping well.

I am looking for a skirt to add to my wardrobe and fit with my summer tops.

Looking at the Kibbe, I should be a soft classic - at least I like to wear classic pieces with some feminine touches. Shapewise, I am pear shaped and quite heavy, so I am looking for a midi or maxi skirt.

Thing is, I have no idea what cut or even colour would work for me. I have a midi black skirt and it's not working for some reasons, so much so that I decided to use it as loungewear!

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!
