Yes RL I agree about the diminution of stress on holidays.

Helen11 I do find this next few months the hardest time of the year to exercise because not only is it getting colder, but the days are rapidly hurtling towards their shortest!.

That's great news, Anne! I bet you felt fitter after all that mountain walking. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it settles soon.
I agree, we know what we should do to keep fit and healthy....but it's hard to keep it up consistently. Well, for me, anyway!
I expect your PT will keep you honest. What a great prize to win.
The Healthy habits threads have been really motivating and helpful for me. Might need them more often in winter, as you suggest!

Thanks Chris and Xtabay - I have to admit that there's no way I can replicate the experience of walking for several hours a day on steep hills into my ordinary life with the usual committments and a fairly flat city!

Added to that, the last day of trekking had about 6 hours of going downhill on stone staircases, and though I had a pole and tried to be careful, it was almost inevitable that it aggravated the knee problem I've been having all year, and had started to get better. So no stair climbing for me, which would have been one way of attempting to replicate the experience.

However I recently won 10 PT sessions at the gym I already attended. I had the first one yesterday and he worked me hard (mostly weights) on the upper body, so I hope this will help.

He also gave me some nutrition info, having analysed a food diary that he had me keep back in January. No real surprises though, as I had made many changed since then anyway. It isn't knowing what to do that is hard - it is actually doing it!

Winter is always a challenge with weight and fitness, and it is coming up soon, so the PT sessions are coming at just the right time.

Keep up the walking, for sure. It's amazing what a daily walk can do for your body. Congrats on achieving a healthy level of body fat!

Congratulations! Your story is an example of how fitness/health/weight loss REALLY works and it takes hard work, effort, consistency, specific goals, not to mention new habits like more walking etc.

It's the opposite of all the marketing hype we get inundated with on how to go about it. Good for you!

Quick update*.Last year a fitness.

fitness evaluation at my gym had results showing that my body fat was 35%, a level that is considered unhealthy. This is despite my BMI being quite normal

evaluation at my gym had results showing that my body fat was 35%, a level that is considered unhealthy. This is despite my BMI being quite normal. I got lots of suggestions and encouragement from you guys.

A couple of months later is was down to 34.5.

The good news is that I have now got it down to the healthy level (well just squeaked in to the top of that category at around 33%) despite less exercising (owing to injury). Same weight, but the BF percentage was lower.

I am attributing it to some dietary changes and to walking hours a day for 4 days in the hills of Nepal in my recent trip there.

Hopefully I can work this number down a bit more and get back into being fit. I won't update you anymore, except perhaps as part of a healthy habits thread.

Thanks for all your support!
