You are on the right track - skinnies-top-light weight cardi. Your outfit is cute.

For me in warm weather to still look stylish in the skinnies & to stay cool.....a SLEEVELESS fitted patterned knit top (pattern hides my muffin-top/apple belly better) just covering crotch/butt with a whisper-thin cardi & small wedge sandals to add a little more balance to the outfit.

I love a light weight tunic over skinnies on others but my boobs require a larger tunic that makes me look preggers.

Non skinny people can wear skinny pants!

I feel more comfortable wearing tops that cover my bum/crotch when wearing skinnies, but beyond those two factors, anything goes for me. I honestly don't remember the last time I wore non skinny pants... I find it a super flattering silhouette actually (and I'm an uber apple).

Try wearing a navy tee with the same pants and cardi--I think you might be a lot happier. I've started using the "column of color" concept more and it really seems to help!

Also, recently in some J. Crew pictures I saw that when they were showing pants that ended at the ankle, it was always with a nude shoe or sandal. That was interesting to me, because of course a dark pant will still cut you. But somehow not having extra cuts from a shoe seemed to help with the line.

I agree that the pants look good on you!

Maybe try a short dress instead of a tunic? Do you have any spring boots? That could also help balance until it warms up to much to wear them.

I'm intrigued by the idea of tunics or loose drapey tops with skinnies. I've not had success with them in the past... I have a hard time with woven tunics because they are usually not long enough for me with my long torso, and I'm a bigger size below the waist. The ones you linked to, vc, are so simple maybe I should just sew one and try it!

Now that I've thought about it for a little bit, I think part of my issue is that in cold weather I wore my skinny jeans or ponte pants with boots or booties which provide some visual weight and width at the bottom. But with ballet flats or sandals, that's not there, the ice cream cone effect is more prominent, and the eye naturally goes to the midsection. maybe I could try chunky oxfords, at least for the spring? Could work, or could be very Steve Urkel.

Laura it is hard to tell because of the shadow in the picture, but these skinnies don't look super tight to me and I think they look good with this outfit as is.

Did you notice this recent blog post that Angie wrote re: skinny-ish denim bermuda shorts with tunic tops?

http://youlookfab.com/2012/04/.....ensembles/

For skinny pants in warmer weather, how about these?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sa.....tback=6860

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ra.....ltback=595 (pricey, but pretty - just putting in here to give you the general 'idea' of tops that might work well with skinny pants in warm weather)

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/mi.....9676-0-1-2

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/mi.....9676-0-1-2

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/pl.....tback=3710

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/vi.....tback=1400 (again, kind of expensive, but just giving you the general idea)

I'm sure I can find lots more!

Meanwhile, I strongly suspect that one of the reasons I can find so many tunic-style blouses and slouchy-ish tops is because of skinny jeans being so popular. Plus - the volume over the skinnies just looks nice.

You can definitely keep wearing your skinnies throughout summer - you'll likely ditch the cardigan/jacket, and go for some tunic-like summer tops and blouses.

Need to keep eyes open for longer length lighter weight tops. - I am right there with you. Not sure if you are the same height as I am (5'4 ish) but since I also have a short waist, many many tops are longer on me naturally. I don't want them to go past hip length though - that just emphasizes the wrong spot on back view.
Maybe we will get lucky and have a cool summer!

Like you I've "adjusted my eyes to skinny jeans" but I can't bring myself to get any. I guess I'm just too critical of my own body. I think though if you wear it and it makes you uncomfortable or self-conscious, then maybe you should not wear it again. I do like those colors on you!

Laura, I think this is a pretty combination. But if you're not comfortable, what about some longer summer tops, like the ones Angie posted recently in her bermuda shorts post? It seems that they would also work with skinnies.

I have adjusted my eyes to skinny jeans, and even worn some myself last winter, but mostly with tunic-length tops or sweaters. As the weather warms up I am finding it hard to find silhouettes that work. This is what I'm wearing today, with a regular length top and a boyfriend-y lightweight cardigan. All day I've been feeling like this outfit is just focusing on those aspects of my figure that I prefer to elide in favor of others. Is there a way to save this or is it just not the pant silhouette for me?
