Thanks for the replies and the commiserating! Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I have especially run into this problem with Target jeans, I love the colors they have right now but even just pulling them off the rack in my size and larger sizes, the calf/ankle area look like paper towel tubes! Not working for me. I'll probably have to suck it up and hit a higher end store where someone can help me find a better fit at the bottom. I will check out NYDJ, thanks for the tip! And I'm "active" now so I can start posting pics, hooray!!

How do you feel about mid-rise jeans? Have you tried Not Your Daughters Jeans? They come in Petites and are often on sale. (Try Nordstroms & Rack, esp. online & Macys.) Generally speaking, one needs to size down a size or two in NYDJ. I have ginormous calves but get a fit in them. Can't remember if they were called straights or skinnies, however.

No solution here--only sympathy. I'm right with you. I want a pair of plum skinnies. I've seriously returned 8 or more of them. The sausage casing over the calf look is not for me. My calves are pretty shapely, so even sizing up in the ON Rock Stars didn't work for me. By the time they fit okay in the thighs and calves, they were baggy around the crotch. Not a good look for me.

It's hard, but not impossible, to find skinnies that fit an *ahem* athletic calf. My solution has been to ask the sales staff if they have any crops or skinnies that fit a wider calf. If the staff know their stock, they should be able to point you towards brands that are a bit more generous in the calf area.

But I know your frustration. Some pants are so narrow, I have trouble even getting my foot through the pant leg opening. And I refuse to wear a pant that feels like a tourniquet around my calf area! Just ugly and uncomfortable.

I think it is possible but will require some careful shopping. I'm about the same size and I do wear skinnies. I find that a substantial mid calf boot with a low heel helps to balance them out and lengthen my leg line. I like a substantial fabric too--if it's too thin and stretchy it seems to create a sausage effect on my legs.

I've had good luck sizing up on the Old Navy Rock Star skinny jeans. They come in some pretty colors. I had success at H&M as well. I posted some grey skinnies yesterday which fit well but had some uneven fading. H&M has colored denim as well.

Good luck!

Is this possible? I love the look of the bright, jewel toned cropped skinnies, but I just can't get the right fit. I usually wear about an 8 in pants/jeans, but all the cropped skinnies I have tried are too tight around my calves and it looks (and feels!) terrible. I've pretty much given up on the idea, but I still look longingly at this style on the rack when I shop and don't want to let go. Thoughts?
