Sarbear, I, too, understand the apprehension about trying skinnies. It took me forever to get over the "they'll look awful on me" expectation. One thing that'll help is to wear a long top when you try them on. The length of the top makes all the difference in the world; I personally still cringe when I see myself in the mirror with skinnies without a top. So don't try on your first pair of skinnies when you wear a short top; instead wear a tunic or even a dress. And of course take the boots with you as well.
I have the MIA ones and recommend them.

Does anyone know if the Express Mia's bag out after a day of wearing? That price is amazing and it's nice to see the higher rise, and the dark wash. I'm a bit concerned about the quality of the fabric because the price is very low.

That through crossed my mind, Shell. I ordered my boots today so when I get them I'll try them over clamdiggers and see if it works. The ones I have are calf length unfolded.

So, one day, being a total clutz, I fell on the sidewalk wearing my favorite pair of jeans. Of course, they ripped right below the knee. Since they were useless then anyway, I decided to cut them right below the knee, where the rip occured, thinking i could try tucking them into a pair of boots that I own. Unfortunately, they are just a smidge too short, so when I sit down, the hem peeks out above the boot. However, I'm thinking if you have issues fitting boots over pants or you don't want to spend money buying a new pair just to wear with boots, you could try them over some clamdiggers or a pair of capris you've banished to the back of your closet due to their unflattering length.

I want to second the Express Mia skinnies. I recently bought a pair and do like them so far. I haven't had much of a chance to wear them yet but I do think they'll be appropriate for boots, etc.

In my experience, I can't wear the same jeans tucked into boots and untucked with other shoes. I need a different pair for each. Even my J Crew Matchsticks aren't skinny enough for boots. I had to get a pair specifically for tucking, and I ended up getting the absolute skinniest skinnies I could find. They look atrocious on me unless I tuck them into boots and I would never wear them by themselves. For regular skinnies, I wear a straighter leg. I do not like tapered or ultra skinny jeans on most women. They look amazing on very slim and rectangular ladies but the exception just proves the rule.

I know what you mean about being scared away from them. I think you just need to try on a whole bunch and see what works. I still haven't found a pair that I really like for myself, and it is my opinion that skinnies really look best on slim, well proportioned women. On everyone else, they only look good with tunics or tucked into boots. I know this isn't the popular opinion here, but my eyes just can't seem to adjust. Every time I have tried on a pair, I feel they make me look top heavy or butt heavy. So all I can say is that if you don't find a pair you love, don't be discouraged. It's really not a look for everyone.

I know this seems like an elementary question, but I'm afraid I'll try on a pair of bad skinnies and hate it and never try the look again. I need some jeans to wear with tall boots.
Thanks for the tip on sizing, aj.

Sarbear - I'd never worn skinnies before and I bought a pair of the Express Mia skinnies (the ones Tanya linked to). I like the fit because they have a higher rise (unlike all the other pairs I tried on) and they are comfortable. They aren't too expensive. I found that I wear a size larger in the skinnies that I am wearing in bootcut jeans.

Hmm, are you talking true skinnies with tapered leg or slim straight legged jeans?
For inexpensive pair I'd check out Express first, I have seen a couple of times here their Mia style mentioned.

http://www.express.com/catalog.....egoryId=27

They are currently 'buy one, get second pair for 50% off'.

I have never successfully put on a pair of skinny jeans. I don't see this as an every day look for me, but I would like to wear them with tall boots in the winter if I can pull off the look. I also like the idea of skinny jeans with a patent peeptoe heel.
Where do you recommend I try skinnies? I don't really want to buy an expensive pair since I'm trying it out for the first time.
I did try some Miss Sixty Eden jeans and loved them. Would these work or do I need an even narrower leg?
Thank you!
