Sarah and Mo, thanks for the tips. Off to check these stores now. Very interesting about the Labor Day sales, I must keep it in mind for next year when I will be another new size/shape

Ditto SierraTradingPost. I got first rate Helly Hansen at half price. I went to the b & m store in Reno, but exchanged online for sizing.
In the future, try your nearest ski town on Labor Day. Historically they sell off previous year's stuff in a tent sale to make way for the new lines. http://blog.skiheavenly.com/20.....tent-sale/

We have a second hand gear store (actually called Second Gear lol) also backcountry.com clearance, sierra trading post.com, patagonia.com web specials section, 6pm.com, rei or reioutlet.com.... None of these have free returns though (they do accept returns, you just have to cover the shipping). Zappos on sale can be reasonable and they do have the free returns. Have a great ski trip/season!

You are right, I should try them out in person. I have become such an online shopper, I never think of trying the store.

You might check your local sporting goods stores for markdowns and it's nice to be able to try stuff on for sizing. (Like Dick's Sporting Goods). Columbia is a nicely made brand that is lower cost in the gear spectrum. I have bought Lands Ends for my kids and it is well made and does the job. However, I find their stuff a little too stiff and boxy for my liking.

I received a great deal of help choosing skiing wear when I asked three years ago and got hooked. I was unable to ski the last two years because of pregnancy and having a very young baby but I am determined to go this year. Sadly, apart from the helmet and the gloves, everything is very tight as I continue to lose baby weight. Where can I pick up inexpensive stuff? I need leggings, a jacket and low-rise snowboarding pants. Is Lands End any good? Not particularly concerned with aesthetics this time. A mom on our mailing list offered me her ski bib but I understand those are not as warm as pants and a jacket.
