Hi there,

Reviving an old post for my first question on this site. I tried on the Nikki jacket at Danier in a small and medium (I'm usually a large in most shirts etc everywhere or sometimes medium) and small was my best fit. Also aware the jacket will strech and confirm to my body over time. I ended up ordering the small online (had promo code and free shipping) but the small I received is MUCH tighter than the small I tried on. Would you ladies suggest waiting for it to naturally stretch out or exchanging it for a medium or another small in store?

Any help would be great!

Thank you, Caro:-)
And thank you so much for chiming in, Sylvie, I know you have a lot of experience with Danier so this is very helpful. From all the advice I've received I'm also thinking that M would be right for me.

I am so late to this thread, but excited to see you in a new Danier jacket (once you pick one). I agree with the thread consensus:

Size down to an M
The store assistant advised me that leather jackets stretch and mold to your body and I have found this to be true.

Both of those jackets look like a good length for you based on the back length provided. Since you're not a petite, you won't need to deal with the waist shaping hitting you in the wrong place.

And thank you Suz for the elaborate reply (and for bumping this thread), this is all very helpful. Good point about not all styles fitting the same way. Like you, I will use these mostly as indoor jackets, so I wouldn't layer the Gap jumper underneath either, but a few thin layers would be nice.
I'm going to re-read Sylvie's thread again too, good idea! And I took the liberty of PM'ing Sveta and she was sweet enough to reply with fit info.

Thank you so much sweet ladies. I will keep you posted!

Ohhh- those are gorgeous, Inge! I so hope one of them will work out for you!

My experience, for what it is worth: Not every jacket in the shop fits the same. They employ or use different designers. This makes it more difficult to order online.

I would definitely consult with Sylvie. She had a lot of back and forth with customer service before visiting Toronto where she eventually got her jacket. She posted a thread about her experience a while ago.

The jacket I bought is XXS. For reference, my shoulder circumference is about 38.5 (or 98 cm). I am small busted, as you know. (A 30C) I'm 5'4". I take anywhere from a size 0 to 4 regular or 0 to 4 petite (depending on the article of clothing and the maker). I fit the small in the Zara jacket that Angie chose for me...probably would have gone to a medium if I wanted to use it as an outdoor coat to layer heavier sweaters underneath.

I can comfortably layer a button down and a thin wool sweater under my new Danier jacket . It feels a bit snug when done up, but is already easing (as the sales assistants said it would). It wouldn't fit with the YLF Gap sweater underneath, though. That one is too bulky and the snug arms of my jacket wouldn't play well with it. But that's okay by me. I intend it mostly for indoor wear with some outdoor wear in our short spring/ fall seasons. (I get more use from an indoor jacket due to our climate.)

Like Shannon and Sylvie, I found that some styles didn't hit me in the right spot - the ones with the nipped in waists seem to work better for me.

I am very pleased with the quality of my jacket and my bag. I'd definitely shop there again.

Can't wait to see you in whichever you choose!

Those are both gorgeous jackets Inge! You would totally rock either (or both!) of them. My only issue with Danier is that they do not carry any jackets in petites so often the waist of their jackets hits my hips instead - but I don't you aren't "vertically challenged" like myself so shouldn't be a problem for you.

Thank you so much for all the excellent input, ladies!
Shannon: I've been a Danier fan for ages and you know I am smitten with your leather jackets (and the very fab ones from the other forum lasses too), so you bet I'd love to join the D-Club:-)

So far general consensus seems to be that a size Medium might be best. Perhaps I should measure my ET jacket and see how it compares to the Medium in the two Danier jackets I'm coveting (which are tailored and fitted).

I have my eye on these - and hope that my (very long) search for a white leather jacket is over:

Not an expert, but I do have one Danier leather coat, which is an XXS. I am a US/Canadian dress size 6, so I'm smallish but not super-duper skinny. I therefore suspect Danier coats run big.

Ooooohhhhhh....are we about to have another member of the Danier club???

I find their jackets to fit on the larger side. For example, most of my blazers are a size 12 and/or large and my newer VC cobalt blue jacket is a petite 12. My Danier jackets are mediums. I find the large are both too wide in the shoulders and too big across the chest in particular. The mediums fit very nicely in those two areas. Because I have a tummy in the way, the mediums are very snug when done up across my midsection but you won't have that problem. I also never wear them done up so don't worry about that.

Based on that, I would say you would most likely wear a medium Inge.

Which ones are you looking at?

Inge that is tricky indeed. I have a short leather blazer from danier and a moto style jacket which is a bit longer. Both are mediums. The blazer fits very well but the torso in the moto style feels too long and bunchy. I am usually a 8/10 but am 5' 3 so the length matters quite a bit. Kim is taking an xs but mentions she has a longer torso and is 2 inches taller than me.

I find they size up. I'm an XS at Danier when I'm normally closer to a small/medium build and with square shoulders. I'm probably an 8/10 in U.S sizing. (36 bust, 28 waist and weigh about 135 lbs at 5'5") I have a longish torso and they fit me well.

Hi Shannon, Suz, Sveta and other ladies-in-the-know:-)

I am eyeing two leather jackets on the Danier website but am wondering about the sizing. After looking at their size chart I get the impression that the jackets run big? E.g. my Elie Tahari grape leather jacket is a size L and fits perfectly, but at Danier an L seems to correspond with a US size 16/UK size 18 while most of my jackets and blazers are 10/12.

I wear my leather jackets year round and do need to be able to layer underneath without them being too tight. The right fit is important, of course, so all input welcome.

Thank you!
