La Ped, my Avalanche leggings pilled just like that, too. But they haven't pilled elsewhere at all, and since I will always be wearing with coverage when I go out, I am actually not bothered.

I'm pretty sure the Uniqlo fleece leggings, IIRC, were cut too straight for me (25" waist, 36" hip). I do like the Warm Lined Pants, which are more of a slim fit trouser (see Find) but extremely warm without being bulky. They have an internal drawstring which helps keep them from sliding down.

Also, FWIW -- I bought those same Avalanche leggings last year on crazy discount, and found they pilled pretty much instantly on the inner thigh. (No wonder they were on super-sale.) They've been demoted to winter camping.

Thank you, that is very helpful! I will pass, especially in light of what April said - I didn't realize they were (probably) unreturnable. I've never been able to wear an XL - my widest point is very low and I have no tolerance for a loose waist. I returned the Simply Vera fleece-lined leggings because they were a much straighter fit than the Avalanche.

(Weirdly, I ordered a different color in the Avalanche ones from Amazon. Identical in every way, except at least 1" shorter in the rise and 2-3" shorter in the legs. SO strange!)

I probably own more HeatTech than anyone else in North America, and in my experience, HeatTech is cut for straight, petite figures. Proceed accordingly.

(Also, Uniqlo's policy on HeatTech is once the packaging is broken, no returns. At least that's true on the tops -- I don't have any HeatTech bottoms yet.)

I would order the XL. Uniqlo runs a bit small. But it IS super stretchy.

I find the Uniqlo pull on pants leggings-pants a little tricky sizing wise for us pear-shaped women, to be honest. It's always a struggle to get them over my hips/butt, since there's no zippered fly--I think they're cut for straighter figures. I would size up, but that might result in a loose waist.

I would get the L and the heaviest weight if you're looking to wear them alone. I got a T-neck in the heaviest weight and it's not all that heavy. Their stuff runs a little small, but it's also very stretchy.

(Sorry for the flurry of questions!)

These are $20 instead of $40 for a day. I've been looking for something warmer than basic leggings to wear when not at work, especially as it gets colder. (Last winter I was layering fleece-lined tights under basic leggings.) So far I got some Avalanche leggings from Kohl's website on Black Friday that are wonderful, but I'd really love some in other colors - navy, green, burgundy.

I don't enjoy paying return shipping, and there isn't a Uniqlo store within a thousand miles of me, so I can't try on. The reviews indicate the waist is small... but I don't know how small. Any advice? FWIW, per the size chart my waist is M and my hips XL. Usually size L works in leggings.
