Robin:  The are closer to Huron is lovely, too.  Being a night owl, however, I'd rather see the sun set over the lake, than get up to see it rise! Joy:  Some are more helpful than others, naturally!  This year, my goal is to make sure my mom sits more!  As for a chambray blazer, I swear by mine -- I prefer it to the denim jacket and find it extremely versatile.  It's my favorite way to do the Canadian tuxedo, too! My parents used to have a cabin about an hour from there, closer to the east side, also very nice but more rustic. The house sounds wonderful! Beth Ann on "Simple Plans" https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/simple-plans#post-1671819 Thu, 02 Jun 2016 22:08:19 +0000 Beth Ann 1671819@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ Robin and Jenn:  We are just outside of Petoskey, at a cousin's house located on one of the inland lakes.  It's a magical place.  My cousin used to own a smaller (4 bedroom) cottage just a 1/4 mile down the lake.  This one was a rundown mansion, occupied by an elderly lady, her caregiver and........... 6,000 bats!  It was red, Victorian and turreted.  My cousins (there are 19 in all) did a lot of the restoration themselves.  Now the house has the original table and  Tiffany light fixture (seats 20) and this house now sleeps 25 -- not including the semi-finished carriage house.  Since my cousins are having lots of babies, it's harder to get time here now, but I have some great memories here!  For the next couple of days, it's just the 4 of us, then my folks and brother's family arrive.......  We'll be eating our way through Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and biking to Cross Village and Charlesvoix.  No Mackinac Island this trip! Maneera:  I'm having some foot/ankle/hip issues at the moment, but I can tolerate the block heels.  These are inexpensive, but they are very stable and keep my weight in my heels, rather than over my toes.  Naturalizers seem to be good for my feet! Suz:  I actually am still wearing my Target chambray jacket.  I decided not to purchase the Loft version (I just don't have a pic of my current one).  I have, indeed, had good luck with Loft this year -- and BR!  The orchid top will be worn with my chambray blazer and my dark bootcut jeans! Where will you be in northern MI? I live in south western Michigan so have been up quite often. People tend to think of Detroit when they hear Michigan but it's a beautiful state, especially if you're anywhere near Lake Michigan. Like the vacay capsule, sometimes it's nice to just pack and not have to worry about what to wear the rest of the time. Makes me think I could get by with a lot less clothes but then I'd probably be bored. Unfrumped:  You are so right.  Now that my "casual basics" really fit and flatter, I can "blend in" while still feeling like my best self. Angie:  I didn't wear these gold glads much last year --- all I needed was some crop flares! Lisap:  My blazer is 2 years old, from Target.  Not as refined as my Loft "find" version, but it's unlined, which means it's lighter and perfect for a summer topper. Ledonna:  I've cleared memory on my phone -- more room for pics! I think you've hit on great pieces that are comfortable but still good-looking; also on family vacations I feel like I need to balance wearing some things I think look good but then not looking too "fussy" or out of sync with very casual wear of others. I think you got it! I am learning that fit fit fit continues to be "it". For example, for years I just had, hey, T-shirts, of random nature, they might be boxy or bunchy or wrong sleeve length or neckline and I didn't compare or think there might be  other brands out there that actually fit me. Same thing for jeans, chinos, shorts. The other thing is I think items need to be washable and look so, so when you spill something on it or get muddy you can truly laugh and say it will go in the wash, and look realistic while saying it! We've got 10 days to spend in northwestern Michigan.  The first few days, it's just my immediate family, so everything is relaxed and quiet. There will be reading, and sauntering down the lakeside walk, hiking, biking, leisurely kayaking, shopping, and eating out.  Daytime temps will be in the high 60s to 70.  My favorite temp --- when the sun is warm, but the breeze is cool! I've kept the wardrobe simple, but did add a couple of extra pairs of shoes, partly for interest, and partly to help resolve a foot issue I'm dealing with.  For around the home, there are woven athleisure pants and swingy tees, with drapey jersey cardis (or denim jacket) for warmth.  For time in town, I've packed some printed tops, black crops, and white and blue denim crop flares.  A dark denim jacket and unlined chambray blazer made the trip, too.   I only packed one dress --- a simple black casual LBD that looks cute with my new block heels and a denim jacket. I took this pic before leaving home, but this is one of my "going into town" outfits.  Top:  Loft, Resin crop flares (BR), BOC shoes (DSW) The items in the finds also slipped into my suitcase!
