The good news is that a) my missing boots in the return were found; and b) the makers of my custom boots, after seeing how they fit on my feet, offered a refund, minus shipping. </p> <p>Which brings me back again to boots. </p> <p>Earlier in the season, I discovered a shoe designer who made beautiful shoes and boots that seemed adequately comfortable--and are better fitting than the custom<br /> boots--in my apartment, but I passsed<br /> on them for fear they would prove otherwise. </p> <p>Now, more than a month later, the velvet boots are significantly reduced (still expensive, though--upper price range of Fluevog). The velvet leather is quite soft, and the heel is manageably low. My default would be black, but they're not on sale. The colours on sale that are currently available in my size include cognac--too casual--and navy--too jarring to my eye with black. These are a light silver grey, and would stand out with black bottoms, but are low enough contrast to work with a bare leg in warmer weather, I think. </p> <p>The question remains whether they'll look horribly dated in a year because of the colour and velvet, or whether the metallic/grey aspect makes them more timeless. Either way, it's not a make-or-break issue, just a consideration. </p> <p>NB: Boots in general are a bit easier to fit than shoes. Even though I got a pair of Sorel's earlier in the season--out of necessity after a huge snow dump--I'd be willing to add another pair. </p>
