Everyone was gracious and kind. At our table we had Tom Kalendarian Senior VP at Barney's, who gave Janet away, his partner, DH and I and some of the in-laws. My BIL who spoke was there with his son, who sat next to me. Son is gay, and although the Mormon church is harsh on gays and doesn't support gay marriage, BIL's toast was heartfelt and brought people to tears.&nbsp;</p> <p>So, before the reception, or maybe the ceremony, I slipped into the ladies room to make sure I would be comfortable! no matter how long it lasted. So while I was in the stall two more women came in and started talking to each other. I finally had to tell them they were cracking me up with their back and forth conversation. It was Kim and her Best Woman, and they were trying to figure out if they could just unbutton two of their suspenders or if they had to take them off completely. Neither one had worn full dress formal wear before. Reminded me of discussion where women try to decide how those 16th and 17th fully dressed in layers and corseted women were able to take care of normal body functions.</p> <p>I had some great conversations with some of Janet's fashion friends. I've known Janet since she was five--when DH and I got married. (Janet and several other siblings were adopted at birth.)&nbsp;</p> <p>Janet won the California Young Designers award in 1996. Her training has all been on the job and through experimentation--no college. She worked for Levis for several years and had a great loft in SF, but then went off to LA where she met Kim. Kim has a Ph.D. in a science and two masters degrees and is very accomplished. We had a dinner together a couple of days later and I got to know her a little. Unfortunately I'm not in any of these photos--there is one where the back of DH's bald head can be seen next to a thin slice of my hair at back, and another where we're barely seen standing at our table during the first dance.</p> <p>Janet is a fashion designer--this was her first marriage. She sends me links to her fashion week shows but I haven't posted them here. I could find them if anyone wants a look.&nbsp;</p> <p>The guests were an interesting combination of New York fashion people and a few Utah Mormon relatives who came to support Janet. I need to go look at her website and see if she has posted any family photos yet. When Janet the fashionista told me I killed it, I was happy. (I wore the dress again a month later at my granddaughter's Halloween wedding. She wanted everyone to wear black, and white the day before at a clambake on the beach.&nbsp;</p> <p>I've been really busy the last couple of months and I'm going to try and catch up in the next few weeks. </p>
