I have 2 types of hangers: wooden ones with clips for my trousers and skirts, and tubular plastic ones for my tops and dresses. And within the plastic hangers, a subdivision of black hangers for smart tops, and white hangers for casual tops.

Not a silly question at all! My closet organization went up quite a few notches when i ditched my mishmash of hangers and bought all of one kind - the huggable slim-line ones from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I can't begin to tell you what a difference it made in my closet. I had so much more room and the problem of clothes sometimes slipping off of their hanger completely went away! It was a miracle! I highly recommend these kind of hangers!

I used to have a real mish-mash, but awhile back, I started reading books and articles about how to get your house ready for sale - and one of the tips I came across is to make sure that all of the hangers in each closet are all the same. I ended up tossing all my old hangers and buying a bunch of plain white plastic hangers, making sure they were all the same brand/size. It was amazing what a difference this made to the look of the closet. I did this with all of the closets in the house - it wasn't that all the closets had the same hangers, but that each closet contained hangers that were all matching in colour/size/shape. It was kind of amazing seeing everything all lined up perfectly, and how it created a sense of order and space in all of our closets.

Meanwhile, I still prefer the look and ease of having all the same hangers in each closet.

Favorites are crocheted cover hangars my Mom made me eons ago. (She died in 2002--these have to be from early 90s.) V-neck or wide shouldered tops don't slide off.

Next to the above I like padded hangars I buy in several places--whenever I see them.

I buy ( and make) padded, covered hangers and match them by colour to the clothes in my wardrobe where everything hangs ( neatly!) according to the colour spectrum. Hey, sad I know but I like to think the only hang- ups I have are in my wardrobe. He he:)

All the same...the slim felt-coated ones from Bed, Bath & Beyond...much like the huggable hangers except that each has a tiny hook so that one hanger can be hung from another vertically to save space. I also have matching hangers with clips or rods to hang several skirts or pairs of trousers vertically. My closet is so much more organized now that I have these hangers.

My closet is a mix of wooden and the slim felt-covered ones (from Costco). Mostly the felt ones, with the wooden ones (from Ikea) reserved for heavier jackets and delicate knits.

Ah, uniform colour/type of hanger always looks so neat!!! I love cushy quilt like hangers and velvet-type hangers because they don't create those weird "shoulder nipples".

I bought the coated, flocked ones from Linen n' Things. I think they're now bankrupt. I used to use wood hangers, great shape but take up too much space.

I have mostly plastic tubular in many colors, but plenty of mish mashed other ones thrown in. Sometimes I think I'd like all matching ones, but I find some hangers are better for some tops (narrower or more sloping so the shoulders don't have indents left) and some hang dresses or thin strapped tanks better, etc.

I have a whole mishmash. I love wooden ones the best but they take up SO MUCH ROOM, and I don't really have enough closet space as is, so I save them for my big coats. I also have a bunch of the cheap plastic tubular hangers, some wire ones, some of the flat velvety non-slip ones, and a bunch of skirt hangers. Oh, and some children's size ones because of the weird shape of my closets (there are portions of the closets where normal adult size hangers won't fit).
