I'm a fabric snob, too, and I choose natural fibers over manmade whenever I can. I've seen the blue Zara blouse IRL, and it has great feel and substance to it. It should launder and iron well, as long as the color don't bleed on the white collar. It's a beautiful shirt! I prefer it to the other one you tried, although that one is very pretty, too.

Recently I updated my ivory silk blouse with a new one. http://collection.filippa-k.co.....ilk-blouse
I chose this one from Filippa K - it's definitely pricey, but it will last for years. I've had two FK silk blouses before, and they hold up very nicely in washing. My point: make sure that you really love the Zara blouse even with the cami under, or else you'll be looking for an update before you know it. Don't get me wrong, the Zara blouse is beautiful, but since you mention the sheerness and the straight hem, I wonder if it's your best choice.

Forgive me Shannon for hijacking but I've found HUGE relief by becoming a fabric snob. There's a reason why sights like cold water creek are so popular. Cool down when you shower. I love a hot shower but the last few minutes I turn the water temp. down. It sets the tone for the day/evening.. Don't drink hot beverages at work!!!!!, especially while wearing poly. Avoid soy, this was huge for my body. I've more to say but said to much.

Oh, I like that blue Zara blouse much better than the other! And, I'm glad that you are keeping the white one. I mean, it just looked phenomenal on you with the jeans!
I'm also becoming a fabric snob. I was just going through my blouses in my closet this afternoon and I pulled one out that I had just bought at NAS (Vince - not silk, but mixed media - so pretty cool - as in, neato, 'da bomb, fierce, etc. - rather than cool as in cold, freezing, brrrrrrrrrr, etc.) And, I'm looking at it and thinking "why the heck did I buy that? Its scratchy!" And, to top it off, I have an Equipment silk blouse in a very similar print and its like heaven against my skin - geesh! I think I'm going to return the Vince. But, OK - what was I talking about? Oh, right - fabric snob. Yes, I've come to the realization that I'd rather have fewer items in beautiful fabrics than gobs of items in fake/synthetic/cheap fabrics.
Oh - and the hot-flash-hell thing? All I can say is, good luck. It was a very miserable experience for me. I too went through it au-naturale. A good 15 to 20 hot-flashes a day - each one a lovely experience of sweat pouring off of my face and streams of sweat dripping down my back - then damp/wet clothes from all of the sweat - then, start shivering because you're cold - but wait just a minute and you'll have another hot-flash and get warmed up (as in burning up hot) and then start all over again! Oh yea - good times.

Beth Ann - Because I work in a Women's Hospital, I am all too familiar with the risks involved with various hormone replacement programs. Everyone has to choose their own path through menopause but for me, I'm going through it naturally. Women have been going through "the change" forever and have all survived.

So glad that your Mom is doing well - hot flashes still at 73??? Oh, this does NOT give me hope!

Oh, dear. Sheesh. The fact that I work one on one, in a small, overheated room with 20 YEAR OLDS does not make me look forward to this. People are looking at me constantly, so believe me, they'll notice. Unfortunately, my mom still gets flashes at 73. Because she had breast cancer (doing great -- 10 years cancer free), no hormones for me!

I may need to try Certain Dri again. In the meantime I noticed that sapphire blue, like your new blouse, is dark enough to be pretty safe.

If we can't get cooler, we have to get smarter.

Caro - I did end up getting the smaller size in the Jeanne Beker blue blouse but am waiting for the Zara blue silk blouse to arrive and will do a comparison. I'm still thinking about the white silk Zara blouse...

Beth Ann - well now that you mention it, I've actually been really fortunate with the armpit wetness problem. I tried a few different antiperspirants to see which worked the best for me and I've done okay in that area. And a menopausal hot flush isn't like any other kind of sweating - it's really difficult to explain. It's a wicked internal heat, like your melting from the inside out - my forehead and back get moist but nothing else. But I get so hot inside that it can make me a bit nauseous for a few moments. And then when it's finished, I get chilly. Layering is key - my blazer at work probably comes off and on about 15 times in a day - and no, I'm not exaggerating.

So......question about breathability and "hot flush hell," since I'm getting ready to come off BC pills and I'm already flushing while on them. Don't you have trouble with armpit wetness? Unfortunately, teaching causing the same adrenaline spike as performing and, while I'm not "flushing" or even feeling warm in the central heating, I will show perspiration marks. This is so annoying, and it keeps me from silks, particularly in solid colors.

I've ordered the blue tuxedo style Zara blouse to try. Free delivery and returns should it not work makes it an easy one to try out. If it fits and works, it's staying.

Jeanne Beker blue blouse is being returned at lunch time today. I'm going to try on the smaller size just to see the fit and 'cause I wanna know for sure if I'm one size smaller (yeah I know...talk about vain!)

I'm leaning heavily towards keeping the white Zara blouse 'cause I love the feel and fit when semi tucked.

Thanks for the invaluable feedback my Fabber friends.

Had to log back in to answer your question Celia - I need more polished as I'm looking at the blue blouse to wear to work with dress pants and skirts. It could also be worn with jeans for casual but the primary purpose is for the office.

I think I'm getting closer and closer to making a decision...

I am all for being a fabric snob.

I would keep the white shirt, it is not as you only have one outfit with it but rather you can only wear it in a certain way(tucked or semitucked). I think you wear enough skirts to make it worthwhile.

The blue Zara blouse is lovely( thank you for the enabling again) but it has a very distinctive vibe than the JB one, as in, I see the Zara one in a more polished way and the JB as a more casual one. What do you need in your wardrobe?

Suz - I'm finding now that I'm in "hot flush hell" (pardon my language), I need fabrics that breath and don't hold in the heat. Poly never used to bother me but now that I have my own little furnace, it's less comfortable.

I would have no problem wearing the shirt done up all the way - love that look. My concern, as always, is the shoulder fit because it isn't petite which usually has a narrower shoulder fit. It doesn't matter so much on the white Zara blouse because it's a more voluminous style but it could matter on the blue shirt, you know?

FWIW you would look STUNNING in the blue Zara blouse...just sayin'...

I am not really the right person to ask because I have several blouses that only really work when tucked, and I do like the white blouse on you. For me, I tend to have a hips issue where sometimes the bottom button pulls (because the shirt is too long and my hips start very high), so sometimes I'll wear with the bottom button open when I don't tuck. Have you tried that? It would break up the horizontal line too.

Here's another idea. It will only work if the blouse is sufficiently long though. Would Wonder Woman be able to curve the hem for you? (I'm thinking opening up the side seams and resewing the resulting vent with a curved edge; it shouldn't actually be too difficult, although it may depend on how fragile the silk is).

Blue blouse is nice too. I vote give it a try! I do like it better than the Jeanne Beker.

I'm phasing out poly, too, Shannon, except for specific attempts to try a new style at a lower price point. (e.g. my Pleione striped crossover.) I don't care if I am a fabric snob. I actually find silk almost as easy to care for. I do put it in the wash, on delicate, cold water, mesh bag, hang to dry. Then iron. No problems so far.

I have my eye on that Zara shirt, too. I love it. Question: I think it probably looks best done up all the way. Would you ever wear it like that? You'd at least want to see how it looks open. Luckily, it's pretty easy to do returns to a Zara store...but do you have one in Winnipeg?

Well, that blue silk blouse is lovely, and looks like your style. I do think it would be better than the Beker for you since it's silk and you're a touch-lover. Nab it.

Re the white silk, it was so cute tucked, but ... I vote return the white one and wait for a more versatile version that will also be fab untucked ... since I know you are trying to simplify your closet load. Thanks for sharing this journey - it's fun!

Oh, and I think the white one looks so nice tucked and with the jeans I would be strongly tempted to keep it on that basis.

I love the blue Zara one, but wouldn't you have the same problem of a straight hem on it untucked? Or because it curves up closer to the sides it would be ok?

I say if you love silk, there is no comparison to polyester. I am phasing out all my poly tops because I can't stand the feel of them.

After last night's post http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ther-stuff about the Zara white silk blouse I'm trying out, I went through my closet AGAIN and did some serious thinking.

I have fallen in LOVE with silk. The Zara blouse feels so wonderful against the skin and with the right white cami underneath, would lose some of its sheerness and shine (plus the flash made the shirt shinier than IRL). I did not like the look of it untucked and now that Angie has explained it is because of the straight hem, it makes sense to me why. I do however positively LOVE LOVE LOVE it semi tucked with the jeans. Hubs also really liked that look and though it "prettied" up the jeans very nicely.

In that same post, I had tried a dark blue/black Jeanne Beker voluminous blouse that was clearly too large. But it is also a polyester blend that is not the softest against the skin (am I becoming a fabric snob???). I am going to go try on the smaller size today at lunch time but I'm a little on the fence because of the fabric.

So this leads to my dilemma - I would like to keep the white Zara blouse but its use is limited due to its shape and I would still like to find a soft blouse that could be worn untucked. I have found this one on the Zara site that I think is stunning and is silk http://www.zara.com/ca/en/woma.....36013.html. It has the possibility of working better than the Jeanne Beker blue blouse and has a bit more structure to it. I think it may work but untucked and tucked and is actually less expensive.

Question #1: Is it silly and wasteful to keep a blouse that can really only be worn one way? Mind you I didn't try the white Zara blouse semi tucked with a topper - that could expand its versatility. If I kept I would not purchase another white blouse that could be worn untucked.

Question #2: Do you like the look of the blue tuxedo style Zara blouse better than the Jeanne Beker and should I order to try?

Note that neither of these break my shopping rules - the white blouse is on my needs list and the blue blouse is part of hubs/mine Anniversary shopping spree.

Would love your feedback and thank you in advance :)
