I have been having a LOT of fun journaling my scent explorations. Most of my samples were gifted to me via a kind fellow reader on a fragrance blog; I'm still astounded by her generosity. Here's a peek at some other scents I have been playing with.

I'm in the midst of a Serge Lutens love affair:
Un Bois Vanille: Caramelized and a little burnt, maturing to a sweet custardy center but with a deeper crisp shell.
Jeux de Peau: Toasty, salty, becoming more creamy and coconutty over time.
5 o’Clock au Gingembre: Like a hot from the oven gingersnap; nutmeg, cinnamon, honey, enveloping you like a hug.
A La Nuit: My ultimate jasmine. Smooth and lush, a slight kick of clove, but ultimately just letting the beauty of jasmine blossoms unfold.
Chergui: Spicy but sweet, honey, incense, amber, and smoke tied together in the prettiest package.
Arabie and Ambre Sultan are on my to-sample wish list.
I enjoyed sampling Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser. It made me feel nostalgic. I like how the rush of vanilla opens to let tobacco and resin come through.
Etat Libre D’Orange Fils de Dieu: I like the combination of cream, rice, lime, and leather. It's a little masculine for my style but who knows-it's making me enjoy leather.
Frederick Malle Musc Ravageur: This is so luscious, keeps changing on me without the musk or vanilla being too heavy, catching whiffs of ginger and cinnamon. But a full bottle is SO expensive, so I’m cherishing my 10 ml decant.
Olfactive Studios Lumiere Blanche: I hoped to like this but it’s too subtle for me. I can barely smell it after 20 minutes even after pressing my nose into my wrist, and just get the faintest impression of sandalwood.
(More in photos, not in digital format.)

And thank you! Cobalt is one of my happiest colors. I don't think I will ever stop wearing it. This year at the Nordstrom anniversary sale I picked up that lovely Michael Kors cobalt trench, and later in summer found this purse on clearance. I use both alllll the time!

Shannon, I think those glasses were made for me. I always had emerald specs on my fantasy wish list for glasses. I am somewhat limited though as my face and distance between my eyes are quite wide. Last year I popped into a local eyewear shop (where I got my titanium pair 5 years ago) and the sales associate immediately picked these out for me. I went back to try them on probably 4 times within 2 months and weighed the cost vs. how much I would regret it if I waited too long and missed out. Over a year later, and I know these frames were totally the perfect choice. The search and lengthy process in validating that yes, these were the best, makes them feel all the more special to wear.

That painting! You know what, I didn't even realize I coordinated with it until I looked at the photos. This is in our apartment building lobby. Honestly I was just looking for a place to perch my phone where I could stand against the wall opposite for a quick shot before ducking out to work! I don't think there is anything particularly special about it, but our complex at least has fun and colorful pieces (and in some places, wall colors) to make the building look a little more interesting.

Cobalt blue is incredibly flattering on you. I am interested in the painting you are standing near. It's interesting and your choice to be photographed by it just adds to the beautiful color story told here.

You look great! I really like you in dresses, but agree they're not always practical or in sync with environmental norms, especially in a manufacturing environment. BTW, I love that you match the painting in pic #2!

The perfume notes are awesome. I have a sizable Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab collection, and the notes in that one sound similar to their Morocco, which is my most-commonly-worn perfume. I really like picking a scent as part of my getting-dressed routine.

I'm trying to take What I Wore photos when I can now that we are getting more light each day. I saw sun driving to work this morning!

This is a somewhat typical example of what I wear to work.

A big change is that I wear dresses and skirts less often, and have shifted to pants or "smart jeans" (dark, uniform washes in ink, burgundy, or gray.) I tend to pair this with silk or polyester blouses, and with scarves (or else the blouse has a pussycat now that I tie scarf-style.)

I now work in an office with a manufacturing shop on site but a bus-cas (and more casually leaning) dress code, so again if I wear a dress I stand out. I still wear dresses on occasion but they aren't part of my "work uniform."
There have also been recent changes at work (basically I'm filling a vacancy from my manager's departure for a month and a half, doing a lot of things I've never or only rarely done and way out of my comfort zone) so I'm striving for professional and approachable.

The ring I got engaged in last year, which I love but Is a fashion ring and wasn't intended to be permanent, is grounded temporarily as the marble stone popped out and needs to be repaired. I'm wearing a silver "Möbius strip" ring that I picked up at a boutique in December. It's a very comfortable shape; we haven't decided what our actual wedding rings will be like, but I'm more drawn to interesting shapes or textures vs. sparkly gems.

Wearing:
Cobalt drapey faux wrap blouse
Ponte skinnies, which I wear bigger than the model as this makes them function well as work appropriate straight leg pants
Black suede quilted, double zip boots
Knotted Cobalt and gold patterned scarf
Cobalt cross body bag
Emerald specs
Silver ring

Smelling: Serge Lutens Chergui, via a sample (it's LOVELY.) I am journaling my perfume explorations so might try sneaking them into my WIW posts.
