Here's mine. I need to get it resized so I can wear it again. Hubby took me on Valentine's Day to look at rings, not actually intending to buy one, but this one was so perfect that we put it on hold and started hunting a diamond (we weren't technically engaged yet). He surprised me by having it ready and proposing on St. Patrick's Day (our dating anniversary was the 18th). The setting was designed for a 1/4 carat round stone to be tension set but I wanted a radiant cut and Hubby wanted a bigger stone so the jeweler added prongs for us.

It kind of looks like two rings already so I didn't get a separate wedding band. DH's band is a simple yellow gold band with a stripe of white gold down the center.

Here's my band and engagement ring. Not likely to set hearts aflutter for uniqueness...I wanted a plain band and a plain ring that would go with anything I chose to wear for the next 60 years.

This thread made me reach for my wedding DVD so I can grab a screenshot to attach here We have designed our rings. Made by a very skilled goldsmith, their profile exceeded my expectations, it is very rounded and comfortable, both rings feels unbelievably soft. I never felt like my ring is made of metal, more like some warm, ready-to-melt material. I love wearing it.

When looked at from above, my ring is 3/4 of the circumference white gold and 1/4 yellow gold. My husband's is the opposite, 3/4 yellow gold and 1/4 white. You can't really see it from the photo I'm attaching, but the interesting thing about this shot is that while taking it, we had realized that the rings fitted perfectly into each other

This is a great thread -- such interesting rings and even more interesting to read the stories.
My husband and I were students when we became engaged. My "engagement" ring is a plastic heart purchased from a coin operated trinket machine at the (now defunct) Dart Drug on Rugby Road in Charlottesville, VA. My husband was rather disappointed that the machine gave him a heart rather than the one with a spider on it! (At least that's the way he likes to tell it.) Hard to get a good picture of that one.

My wedding ring is a simple gold band (identical to the one worn by Mr. Ryce). The only time I've taken it off was during pregnancy and for a minor surgery.

A few years after the wedding, and once we were both gainfully employed, I received the ring I wear daily with the band -- an oval diamond flanked by twin oval sapphires, platinum-set, on a gold band. It's very 80s and I love the fact that it's so identifiable as being from the era when our marriage began.

What an interesting thread! It's fascinating to see the rings, but even more so to hear the stories behind them. I feel I'm getting to know the ladies of YLF a little better because of it. :-)

@ Janet: The inherited ring on your right hand is exquisite. I totally concur with your thought of wearing it on the left hand, with your wedding band.

@ Kate S: I also wear the wedding ring of my maternal grandmother! Like you, I feel privileged to do so. It still has the inscription from my grandfather, when they were married. There was enough room for my husband and me to inscribe our initials and wedding date. The only time I've not worn it was when we lived in Rio de Janeiro, and I didn't dare risk having it stolen on the street.

My engagement ring is an emerald - my birthstone. I used to wear it daily, but now tend to wear it mostly for social events. Instead, I wear the eternity band my husband gave me for our 25th anniversary, and I mix it up by stacking it with another ring selected from several vintage favorites.

The photos show wedding band, eternity band, and engagement ring.

I literally wore my first ring out! It became so thin from age that it became bent and unwearable.

Here's a picture (photo #1)of my original band side by side with the more *grown-up* version that my husband gave me for our 25th wedding anniversary five years ago. You can't tell from the photo, but my original band has a row of tiny diamond chips. I loved it so much and that's why we decided to go with the same metal and a very similar style.

Hubby and I were married in 2005 when we were dirt poor, brand new professional trying to make ends meet in Vancouver. We didn't buy an engagement ring and I paid for my own wedding paid with my teensy-weensy salary. Things are a lot better for us now, but the ring reminds me of that exciting and challenging time in our lives.

There are some very pretty rings in here!

Beautiful rings ladies! My husband and I never had a formal engagement so I don't have an engagement ring (though I wore a promise ring he gave me just out of high school up until the day we were married). We didn't want to spend a lot on our wedding rings; we'd planned to do custom designed rings for our 5 year anniversary (which passed in Nov.) and have since decided to bump it to 10 because these rings are in better shape than we'd expected. Most likely I'll treat this band as an engagement ring when we get the next rings and work it into the design.

Photo #1 was taken at our wedding, and photo #2 I took just now.

I'm surprised at all the sapphires, they are so pretty!

I find older rings tend to be yellow gold and newer one's are white gold or platinum (or palladium). In fact, when I went ring shopping with hubby to be a few years ago, there weren't even any yellow gold rings in the stores to look at!

What fun! Thank you for starting the thread.

I feel very privileged to be using my maternal grandmother's original wedding ring as my wedding band. It is 10k yellow gold with engravings to look like a braid, an Irish symbol of unity. (She swapped out this one for some more bling in the mid-80s, and my cousin has that one). We got married 2 years after she passed, and it was a perfect fit, no resizing necessary. I never take it off. (My husband was relieved that he didn't have to go jewelry shopping!)

When I travel on business, however, I do additionally don a second band with some channel-set diamonds in it, to add some "flash." My husband says it makes me look "more married." And he's right, I confess the reason I add it is in order to draw attention to the fact that I am NOT available.

Today I also happen to be wearing the diamond from the ring from my first marriage, which I got re-set into a simple pendant. I remember always feeling self-conscious with it on my hand. (you might not be able to tell in the photo but it is almost 1 ct.)

I couldn't get a good close up of my wedding ring but here it is. I don't know if you can see the design- it has a vine of daisies on it. I don't wear my engagement ring because it sticks up too much and gets caught on things. It's a pearl that we had gotten on a trip to Sea World set in white gold, so it has sentimental value. I'm not a diamond fan, either.

My husband picked out my original ring set when we were poor college students. Nine years later he had he bought another diamond and I picked out the setting--a wide gold band with a florentine finish. The florentine etching wore off ages ago except right next to the stone. One of these days I will have it polished so it matches.

I had the original stone reset into another ring. I couldn't get the ring over my knuckles this morning, but I show it anyway. Over the years I have worn it often on my right hand. I think I do have the original setting somewhere. BTW, we've been married 45 years, going on 46.

I never even considered not wearing my engagement ring and substituting it with another, so Angie's blog post got me thinking. Since I've been married (7 years), I've always thought of the wedding ring and engagement ring as a unit.

My engagement ring is a sapphire (yay, team sapphire!) with small diamonds in a gold setting on either side, but the main part of the ring is platinum. I actually like that it's mixed metals even though I'm generally a silvertone person. The wedding band itself is as simple as it gets - very plain white gold.

Sadly, the sapphire in my engagement ring has a chip in it -- you can probably see it in the photo, even though at many angles it's not obvious. I have no idea how or when it happened -- it's been there since before we married! I always feel a little bad about it, and I think that someday my husband will probably treat me to a new ring. He talks about it sometimes.

The other picture is a platinum and diamond ring passed down from my mom's great aunt, and my mom gave it to me when I graduated from college. I absolutely love it -- it's not a great picture, but you get a hint of the fine filigree setting. I wear it on my right hand sometimes, but sometimes I'd really like to wear it on my left with my wedding band because I usually reserve my right hand for my bold statement rings. I guess there's nothing stopping me from doing that, huh?

I need to take a photo of mine, but the engagement ring is at the jeweler being resized and repaired. I'm not a big diamond person either, so my engagment ring is a simple oval solitaire set in platinum (I don't wear yellow gold). I chose my wedding ring - it's a narrow platinum band with a beaded edge and filigree, sort of vintage-looking (see, even then!). My husband just wears a plain thick platinum band.

I also have a sapphire ring (my birthstone) set in white gold that I wear every day on my right hand - a small oval sapphire with a tiny diamond on either side of it. It was a gift from my husband for our first married Christmas.

I don't have my own engagement or wedding ring to show you, but I own the wedding ring of my great-great-grandmother. It's a really paper-thin goldband, because they were fairly poor. I have a gold pendant necklace I wear from time to time (I'm normally more for silver) and then I wear the ring with it. I always feel a little bit special when I wear it because I'm wearing "my own history". The date engraved is the 24.11.94 (obviously 1894) and the initials K.S. stand for Karl Suppé, my grand-grand-grandfather. Suppé was still the maiden name of my grandmother. My grandmother even has a family picture where my grand-grand-grandmother is wearing the ring. The picture looks a bit like from another world, with the dress she's wearing and her husband with the imperial ceremonial unform and the cildren in their sunday clothes. I think it's really fascinating!

Team Sapphire! AJ, we also married in 1992 and at that time the only colored stones I had seen in engagement/wedding sets were those from my parents' generation. We started the trend again!

Bryan picked out my ring all by himself. It's fairly traditional, but it's special to me that I had nothing to do with it. He chose the ascher cut diamond and platinum setting and I couldn't be happier with it.
I currently wear it on my middle finger due to 75lbs of weight loss. It won't cost that much to resize it, but I'm not quite ready to part with it for 2 weeks yet.

But Catholics in the Netherlands wear their rings on their left hand - so my late Mum wore hers on her left and my Dad on his right. My Dad *still* wears his wedding ring even though my Mum passed away almost 11 years ago.

Such pretty bling ladies! My rings must look very boring and basic to you since I am not a diamond gal. I make up for it on the handbag side of things though.

In Holland, people wear their wedding ring on their right hand - so my students were always curious about my martital status - I wear my rings on the left. Not sure why it's different there? Does anyone know?

I changed the design of my ring too, needed something more flat so it wouldn't catch in clients hair, lol. Very simple, but I love it!

Oooo everyone has such beautiful rings.

Here's my engagement ring, It came from a little shop in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham 10 years ago and I am yet to add a wedding ring to it though I would like my wedding band to have the same curve as it. I chose it myself as BF knows what a fusspot I am!! It lies flat against my finger, I find rings which stick up get caught in my gloves and on clothing and have a tendancy to twist round my finger (see, fusspot!!!) x
