Our area gets very cold, but has little precipitation. We do go out in the evening periodically, but also go birding a lot. I really freeze then because it involves a lot of standing around.
What I have:

Patagonia Vosque 3 in 1 (in navy),

two North Face hooded thermoball parkas (in dark grey and pink),
three Patagonia hooded nanopuffs (in silver, grey, and navy),
Eddie Bauer hooded long down parka (Lodge??) (in dark blue),
Patagonia hooded down jacket (in navy),
Lands End down jacket (in pale pink),
Marmot goretex down parka (in olive).

And I wear all of these. The pale pink one is new.

Thanks Suz! The north face is actually very available here. Though not cheap. I have to find the right warmth level. Temps seldom drop below freezing here and I don't want to break out a sweat in my coat... but I do run cold.

I have several and plan on getting another as soon as I can find the one I like.

#1 is my heavy-duty parka. I probably won't wear it much now that I have moved to British Columbia but it is a lovely coat and impeccably made by a Canadian company called Quartz. Canadians know from puffers! :)

#2 is a lightweight North Face puffer coat like Angie's yoga jacket...I wear it quite a lot in my new climate, but it is strictly casual. I would like an upgrade on this coat, which I actually purchased second hand. This coat can be layered over as well as under. It is not down but it is warm. Yes, Canadians know puffers!

#3 is a short packable puffer from Aritzia. Useful item, layers well. Canadian company, again (although, like North Face, likely made in China).

#4 is a puffer from Lole. This was my sole winter coat for about 8 years....it is 10 years old now and still in perfect shape. But I'm sick of it. It's very warm. And, guess what? Canadian. Did I mention that Canadians know our puffers? :)

I want two new puffers. An upgrade for the North Face when I can find it. And a long lightweight packable puffer like Janet's, but not in black. Probably red.

LaPed, is the patagonia one too bulky for everyday use that you'd like another?
NuanceDream, Glory: I love a berry shade parka!
Katerina, you are an inspiration for wearing puffers in a chic way!
Carla, the way you rock a puffer I do believe that!
Stylefan, I imagine Canadians make good cold weather wear. Your rust color puffer is pretty unique!
Inge, those berry shades are yummie!
Notsaf, so far I have withstood puffers for the same reason, but they're looking very fresh to me now.
RobinF, my first pic is a uniqlo one too, they do get good reviewsfor warmth. But yeah, their 'short' coat is mid thigh for me so defs long enough.

I love down, nothing beats it for warmth, and that is the only type of puffer I own. My main winter coat is a black down with a hood, not too heavy and works for most of the winter but also good for cold rainy weather - I wore it all over the Mediterranean in January a few years ago and it was perfect. However it is getting old and I'm sick of black so am looking for another this year. I also have a lightweight down vest, new so not sure yet how much wear it will get, and a long heavy down coat for the coldest of winter.

I purchased this Uniqlo one recently but haven't decided yet whether I am keeping, mostly because it isn't a petite and is very long on me. Seems pretty warm even though it is very lightweight.

You ladies have A LOT of puffers! I don't like the look of them myself because they can be too sporty and generic (I remember about five years ago when the belted black puffer was just everywhere on everybody!), but I like how they look on others and this thread is showing the great variety!

I've got only one, which is the underlayer of a 3-way parka from Patagonia that I only wear when the weather absolutely demands it: when it's cold and pouring. Then I am so grateful to have it!

I got the short berry puffer last year, and wear it all the time in Fall/Winter. It's dressy with fun design details and great for temps above zero.

The long eggplant puffer comes out when it's really cold (around freezing) point and/or snowing.

The 2 short Uniqlo puffers are very lightweight, and I only use them for layering under or over exercise clothes (walking outside). I find them very short (on me) and that annoys me as I'm constantly pulling them down. Wish their short puffers came in slightly longer lengths ;-)

I have two knee-length puffers (one olive green Lole and one burnt orange LL Bean), one waist-length puffer (brown Columbia) and two vests (one black Jacob and one olive green Lululemon). I don't have all of the puffers in finds. I live in a cold place (-30 C is not uncommon) and I am always cold. We are spending this winter in Montreal which is colder.

My thoughts about my puffers.

Lole - This is a Canadian brand. My puffer is about 12 years old. It is very well made and very warm. The pockets have been replaced a few times because my dog ate them. Unfortunately, I left treats in them and she got into the coats. Then she ate my pockets. Thankfully no damage to the outside. I considered this my dog walking coat. It is starting to look worn out. Canadians know how to make puffers. I have learned that.

LL Bean - Gorgeous colour and cut. Very flattering. I bought the warmest coat LL Bean makes. I freeze in this coat. Also, the pockets are not big enough for my things.

Columbia - I have no use for a short puffer.

Jacob Vest - This is a Canadian brand that does not exist anymore. Sigh. My vest is about 12 years old. Very warm and well made. Super cute.

Lululemon Vest - This is a Canadian brand. The vest is very warm and flattering. Works well under coats, unlike my Jacob vest which is very puffy.

I am planning to buy another puffer in the next year or two. Soia & Kyo is the brand I am looking at. Lole is also very good.

I have three shorter puffers and a few longer ones. Here are some of them.
1. Beaumont - not very warm.
2. Basler - quite warm.
3. Don’t remember the brand... old, thin not warm.
4. H&M - looks warm but not very warm.
5. Escada - very warm.

Somewhat remarkable, I have just two daily-use puffers, one from Uniqlo (short -- photo #1) and one from Patagonia (long -- see Finds). I also have a really beat-up ultralight down vest that I use for warm-weather backpacking trips (and, tbh, whenever I'm chilly at home), and an extremely warm puffy-yet-packable down parka that I use only for winter camping and as back-up insulation on long cold-weather hikes. High thermal efficiency but it looks truly ridiculous, especially the bubble-shaped hood. On my list for this year is a down parka with a waterproof shell as an all-purpose outdoor play coat (see photo #2).

Liesbeth, Soia & Kyo is a CANADIAN brand, and the best puffer brand of them all IMO. I've had THREE coats from the brand, and they are absolutely impeccable, extremely good quality, very warm, fashionable, and last forever. Their coats are fabulous too, although you have to be in a neutral mood to love them :)

Thanks kkards, that link IS useful. I'm new to puffer love so was either MIA from the forum last year or ignoring that thread ;). Also good laundry tip.
Torontogirl: that's funny, for some reason I can picture you vividly in a sleek long black puffer :D
Joy and Carla: uniqlo is tempting isn't it, with low prices and good reviews...
Lisa, I don't really know those brands, not available here unfortunately.
Nemosmom: I have felt bulky and fussy in longer coats, but not claustrophobic thank god!
Angie, your navy one is causing some serious envy, I love that collar! But I see it's an American brand, and sold out, and anyways was above my budget... :D
Janet, I used to dislike puffers but may be on the verge of turning real bad!
Rachylou, looks like a diverse collection!
LisaP, I imagine with your style puffers are in the minority, but I agree on Angie's post inspiring some love for those trendy short ones!

I have 4 , none of which are in my finds , and I’m on my phone so ....
2 are North Face Thermoballs and quite gearish . Also top-of-hip length and only good at this time of year . Not sure I’d ever buy them again - and not because they aren’t good jackets , but I have limited need for something like this . Other two are a little more fashiony - one longer hip length from MPG and a knee length hooded beauty from Soia & K in black with pale pink . lining . I’m open to a shorter fashion-y puffer in an interesting colour if i find one .

Here are mine.

- Zara white short puffer (quite cropped and puffy so not the most practical thing but it looks cute in a snow bunny sort of way when I do wear it)

- Ralph Lauren long black puffer - instant workhorse. Great for travel.
Lightweight but warm without being too warm. Layers well underneath. I love the dramatic length.

- TNF and Calvin Klein puffer vests — mostly worn as gear for walks but also are good for super casual days to throw on and go for errands.

- Canada Goose Down navy short hooded puffer. My husband got this for me ages ago and I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it’s been a workhorse too. Casual and super comfortable and light, it magically spans a wide range of temps. Travels well.

You’d never know I used to not be a fan of puffers, would you? I wouldn’t be averse to a cute patterned one if it were the right price and the right print, but not something I need so I’m not actively looking.

Here are mine:

#1 - TNF yoga gear

#2 - very old SPARE that I don't wear because it's black, but is sublime quality so I keep it.

#3 - best long puffer! Very architectural, warm, and impeccable quality. It's blue, not black.

#4 - sporty short cute puffer that's preppy casual and fun - also blue, not black.

#5 - classic fitted equestrian that's dressier than the rest

I LOVE my red puffer. It isn’t even down, but it keeps me warm and the colour is fab. (Looks better IRL than in the stock photo.). The Uniqlo one is new, but is already getting lots of wear. I use it more like a cardigan/sweater. Warmth without the weight. I’ve fallen out of love with my black Eddie Bauer hooded puffer, and have the cobalt LE on order as it’s replacement. I plan to wear it without the hood, since I don’t like hoods.

These look like my puffers, all from Nordstrom Rack from past years,
. The black one is Anne Klein and the first one I bought. It is nice and warm. The short packable light grey gets the most wear, it has a removable hood and can be worn under other coats. It is also very packable. I would buy another and am tempted to try the Uniqlo version

I LOVE my Zara thin puffer ... I wear it until my core temperature starts dropping to dangerous levels, then grudgingly pull out my Columbia heavy-duty one.

Although I get the practicality of long puffers, I find them overwhelming and uncomfortable, so I've tended to avoid them ... if my bum is really going to get cold, I just wear my black snowpants

Liesbeth. you might find this post helpful. its from last year, but it's still a good reference.
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ffers-here

these finds are my current puffer collection, i also have a short baby blue one that's somehow missing from my finds...

i love down puffers, in my experience, they travel and wear well.
i'd make sure that whatever you buy is machine washable, so much easier than dry clean only...and if you are getting a down coat, when you do wash it, make sure that when you dry it, you dry it completely and with either tennis balls or something else in the dryer to make sure that they feathers don't clump together.

I'm considering getting a puffer because warm, waterproof and trendy... but I'm unsure what style: trendy big bands, small bands, short, mid-thigh (my favorite length for style & practicality) or long, faux-fur-lined or not, in a versatile neutral or fun bright... if you care to share your puffers, I'd love to see what choices you make!

Edit: here's some I'm liking.
