Thanks Suz. If I am wearing a moulded bra ( which I pretty much do all the time!) my bust is 85cm. I never really know where to measure shoulders but I think about 96cm. So pretty similar to you.

Unlike you though, I have a long waist and frequently find clothes hit too high (ie the waistline is on my ribcage and not my waist) I do have short arms though. Anyway I will try your suggestion of petites with I next go to the city.

I resonate with your points about shaping too.

Anne, I don't know if this will work for you; perhaps not. But what has worked for me is to buy petite blazers and jackets. I usually size up in petite, but it fits better overall. I also have a slightly high waist and shortish arms—more reasons that P sizes in jackets, in particular, seem to work for me.

Interestingly, I find that I can successfully wear overcoats in regular sizes. I am not sure why that is.

Claire mentioned you should get a straight rather than a curvy cut. I don't find that is true for me; I like one with a bit of shaping. And it seems to work okay for me. I don't know if my proportions are the same as yours, however. My shoulders are about 98 cm and bust about 83.

So in many US sizes I will take a 4P in a jacket or a shirt, whereas in regular sizes (going by most size charts) I'd be a 0 or a 2. But the 4 P seems to work just fine, in fact better than fine for jackets and some shirts.

Fruitful - really? I assumed you had quite small shoulders?

Jayne I don't think buying to fit the broad shoulders in themselves flatten "the girls" - but I know some outfits are definitely flattening. And bras make a difference too. I have worn the same dress with and without a padded bra and the difference is very evident.

The problem I have is either tight shoulders or a bagginess at the bust.

Funny, I have broad shoulders and a relatively normal to small bust but some jackets and dresses just flatten the girls. Can it be the broad shoulders? Never thought they were the cause before?

I have the opposite problem as Claire - big bust and narrow shoulders. I have found that I usually cannot button my jackets/blazers

Thanks for asking Anne. This is a small part of what I had trouble with today as well.

Yes that is what I meant Claire, and we do certainly have some similarities in our upper bodies. I should learn from your recent search to keep trying things on!

We don't have F21 or H & M but there are junior type shops ( in fact that is where I mostly shop). I think the jacket I tried on was from the junior range at Australian Target.

Um, yah, me too if you mean that your shoulders are broad and your bust is small. Some jackets will fit you okay without alteration if you just keep trying on different ones. A straight (non-curvy) fit is what you need. You might take a ginger tippy-toe into the junior's deparment. Carefully! Do you have Forever 21 and H&M?

So am getting the feeling that I am a different size in my straightish shoulders from my very small bust.

Anyone got advice for this? It came out when I was trying on a jacket yesterday.
