Cut them, and try them finished neatly with a cuff vs ragged and unfinished.

Use a pair of shorts that are a length you currently like and look good in as a guide.

Thanks for your input! I think I'll have time this evening to do some sewing, I'm going to post some pics when I try to decide on the length.
I love the idea of cutting them off! I think Lauren (The Pear Shape) just did a little cut-off tutorial. I think what will be most appealing about these as cut-offs is that they'll really bring home how shapely your lovely legs are!

I recently cut off a pair of maternity jeans that were too short and I love the result. If you won't wear them as pants, then I say go for it. Like Ceit says, start long - you can always cuff them shorter or cut again.

Thanks Texstyle! These are my only pair of BFs, that's the reason why I'm hesitating. Although, when you consider how much more I love those straight legs in the same length...
I should have added I have 2 pair of dark wash BF shorts that I bought last year KUT from the Kloth so a light wash pair for me is in order.

I'd go for it. I'm considering cutting off one of my pair of BF's too - because I want the lighter wash in shorts and I already own a replacement pair that I bought in a more appropriate pant length.

Thanks Ceit! If I cut them then I'd definitely start long to see what length works best. Pinning them up to see doesn't work at full length.
I am no guide, as I just chopped off my largest pair of BF jeans too (same reason, lost some weight, they felt huge huge, needed some shorts). I cut mine to mid-thigh, as I have three pairs of long shorts now.

I say cut away! Start long, and you can always go shorter :)
I still haven't bought another pair of shorts for summer, everything out there either looks bad or is too expensive. So I started thinking I might cut my BF jeans off to get another pair of shorts... Bad idea?

They are very roomy, I'm wearing them without a belt in the pics. I bought them as baggy BFs and have lost 6lbs since then. I'm feeling like I'm swimming in them, so I haven't worn them at all lately. I much prefer my slightly baggy straight legs. Do you think cutting these off would work? If yes to what length? The denim is quite lightweight, it would be a great summer fabric, despite the dark wash. Or do you think I should keep them long?
