Michelle... I feel your pain. My calves are 16.25" which is very large for tall boots. I own 2 pairs of tall boots from payless and one pair is a faux suede slouch pair, and I love them!! From feedback from others I have found that on me, the slouch boots look better with bare legs, leggings or tights, and less good with my jeans. But thats on me. I say try it and share and we will help you find the combos that look best!

Is there an optimal height for slouch boots? Is it better to stick with ankle or knee-high versions? I'm most wary of mid-calf heights because of the potential pitfalls Angie pointed out in earlier blog posts.

Michelle, I have this issue as well. I have 15 inch calves, but I wear a size 4 and am only 5'1. So my calves are quite large for my size. I recently purchased a few pairs of slouch boots, because they are much easier to fit than zip-up boots. However, I have been on the fence about them, and now think I'm going to return them. It's not so much that I think they ADD bulk, but I don't think they do anything to streamline my look. When I put a slouch boot on one leg and a traditional zip-up knee-high boot on the other, I feel that my legs look a lot thinner with the knee-high boot.

My guess is that this might be something that is different for different individuals, so you might have to try some and take some photos for feedback.

I echo Marianna. Strong and shapely legs look fabulous in slouch boots. Thumbs up from me too.

I wear slouch boots and I never thought about them adding bulk to my fat legs. I actually find them really comfortable and convenient because you don't have to worry about them fitting your leg exactly, and somehow I feel that the extra volume of the boot balances me out (whereas sometimes in riding boots I feel like I look totally out of proportion.) I wear them over skinny jeans and I really enjoy the look, and I don't think I am committing a fat-fashion faux pas.

Now that I've conquered the coat issue, it's time to focus on boots. I've ordered a pair of knee-high riding boots that I'm optimistic about (we'll see this week), and I have a pair that's up to the task of taking me through Canadian snow storms as well as the ensuing slush (they're strictly to be worn under pants, but that's cool for now). I know slouch boots are both trendy and practical, but this is an aesthetic I have a hard time picturing. Would a baggy boot augment the size of my legs? If so I'll have to give them a miss, as this is a physical attribute I'm not anxious to play up. If slouch boots were to work for someone like me, what kind of shaft height would look best? As for colour, I'd be reluctant to add yet another pair of black boots, but would think about it if it was the most flattering approach.

Over to you, slouch boot experts!
