Your hair is really similar right now, isn't it? It would be a matter of doing more of a side part?

I can't comment from a curly-haired perspective, but your hair stylist shoe be able to advise you if this will work with your hair. From your face shape I would say for sure. On the other hand, if you don't have a hair-stylist whom you trust, going short is veery dangerous territory. If he/she doesn't do a good job it could be some painful growing out. I am also contemplating a new do--thanks for inspiring me some more.

I think it would be great on you. Have to defer to the stylists and curly haired folk as to whether/ how it would work!

Cricket - I'm a lot like you. I really don't have the ability to do much styling. I have tried, but I just don't have it. Stylists do great things with my curls, but on my own, it's hit or miss.

Taylor - I can just picture your big perm! I love your style now.

My stylist has given me a few tips for styling. She pulls down on my curlier sections while they are damp to help them match my less curly sections. Also, she pulls down on the sections right in front of my ears to shape that area into a "sleeker" profile, all the while she is working the ends to curl outward rather than under. She also takes sections on top and twists them into larger curls, so that instead of smaller, tighter curls I end up with some looser waves.

I usually style my hair from dripping wet in order to get frizz-less curls, but my stylist styles it damp after cutting it. She cuts my hair wet, and it turns out, but in the process she pulls it pretty straight and then adds curl back in with the twisting, etc. Her technique results in looser curls (but more frizz) for me, but I prefer less frizz so I do it my way usually. Then when my hair is damp, I will pull down on the curliest sections to loosen the curl somewhat.

For me, blow drying and using a curling iron would be waayyyy too much work on a regular day, but I have used a curling iron on very special occasions just to add a bit of glossy smoothness to my curls.

I love it and think you should try it- maybe you could blow dry part of it to be straighter and then it would be a looser curl?

I love it, it's not too different from what you have now, to my untrained eye.
Marion Cotillard could be your movie star twin whom you can look to for style ideas, or flat out copy.
I haven't found mine yet.

Tarzy,

I really like the idea of you going a bit shorter.!!! You have beautiful curly hair and I am envious. I wore the biggest spiral perm in the 80's and 90's :)

As long as you keep some length on top..no poodle, as long as you keep it layered no triangle.:) Remember curly hair shrinks 1-3 inches when dry, rather remind your stylist of that:)

Aren't your curls much tighter Tara? Or am I making that up? If they are, I'm not sure if it would work. I don't know anything about curls but hers seem very large and open.

Also, look at that: she is doing bra exposure rule #3.

Agree the cut in your profile pic is so much like the lovely Ms C's that it seems like a good fit. Have you tried doing a side part and seeing how you like it?

Re the dread poodlehead: This may be your standard MO with cuts, but now that I've taken my coarse, very wavy short (vaguely flapper-esque) I have to have my stylist start with a dry cut so all my wayward curl patterns are taken into account. If you haven't gone that route it may be worth a shot.

ps I came late to http://NaturallyCurly.com but if other wavies/curlies haven't visited, it's got great product reviews, Q&As etc. [And a related store.]

I think the style looks similar to what you already have. I bet you could replicate it with a low side part and a little smoothing out with a big barreled curling iron. I have similar hair texture, so I understand the challenges. And I agree with you, is the magic the hairstyle or the supermodel, photo editing and eye make-up?

Cricket - yes - I know exactly what you mean. My curl is tighter too. Not sure the effect would be the same. And as you probably know, it's so hard finding someone who can really cut curly hair. I don't want to end up with the dreaded triangle, or the "poodle!"

I really like that cut. The shape around her face is really great.

My hair is also naturally curly, cut similarly but with a longer front piece rather than the side swept bang (but I really like this and might want to try it!), and mine isn't be as loosely curled as that. Would yours? I still think it will work with a tighter curl pattern, but won't look quite as loose. KWIM?

I really love this hair cut on Marion Cotillard, from the cover of July's Vogue.

My hair is naturally curly, and I've had a cut very similar to this in the past, when I was a lot younger. I think it's a fairly classic cut - basically a curly bob, no? Am I deluding myself?

PS - I do realize it's just a hair cut, and I won't suddenly look like a beautiful French movie star. Sigh.
