And do they look too western for a Bostonian? - No

Does the back styling on the melissa look like they're trying to put too much style onto something that's supposed to be basic and casual? - No

Both great boots. I don't think you can go wrong.

so I got the ones on the left for style and color only, since zappos doesn't have them in cognac (the color on the right). I figured I could buy them in cognac someplace else if i decided they were "the one". honestly, who am i kidding? i will probably never wear them with skirts, so i assume i will be wearing them with jeans. i love the rugged casual look of them. in or out. sarah, i have others with heels for the boot cuts. totally agree I need to lengthen with bootcuts. and now, being the newbie that I am, I need to figure out who scarlet is... (never mind that i should just go to bed!)

I think these are great and would work well with straight or skinny jeans - definitely not too western. You'd probably want more heel to wear with boot cut jeans. I'm no expert on wearing booties with skirts, except that they usually work best if they are snug to the ankle. Do you want to wear your jeans tucked in our tucked out? You might look at Scarlet's posts to see how the Queen of Ankle Boots style hers.

I really like the back part of the boot on the right and the darker toe and overall color of the boot, but the boot on the left is dressier and you could probably get more wear out of it. I think the boot on the right looks a little western while the boot on the right is dressier.

Im really drawn to the darkened toe on the right, plus I love that color, but think both are great....what are you planning to wear it with?

They're both nice and I don't think they are too western looking at all. Both look classic.

Hmmm, that's a tough one! I think I like the one on the left a little better, less detail more versatility? I'm very inexperienced with the bootie, skirt combo so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

I like the roper on the left a bit better. I actually think the ribbing on the back of the Melissa makes it look more casual and less of a classic and I would find the color more versatile. Clearly that may just be my personal eye. Hard to go wrong with a Frye boot!

I am looking for a pair of frye shorties for jeans, fall pants and occasional skirt. I have
several tall boots and am wondering which folks like better and think are more versatile:
The jayden roper or melissa scrunch short? And do they look too western for a Bostonian? Does the back styling on the melissa look like they're trying to put too much style onto something that's supposed to be basic and casual?

II tried the Veronica too but they seem narrow in the ball area and I have two other boots with the lug style sole (one pair in a pale camel and one in black)

Thanks!!!!!
