They would come and then go back, always looking "just not me". I have a pair of wide above the knee COS bright yellow shorts from a few years ago, great in the heat but this year I finally decided to try something shorter then the usual just above the knee. Went for not too tight and maybe 5'-7" in the worn red J Crew chino and they are amazing. You made beautiful tops that would work with these shorts, imo. Button down shirts, silk or linen woven t-shirts, tunics and oversized tops - all workable options. My preference would be a slightly oversized top. I also like shorts styled with a knee length cardigan and a boxy jacket. I know some would say grown-up and shorts are an oxymoron, and I respect that opinion even though I don't share it. I do get it. :)<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>In cool weather, my default style is some combination of jeans and t-shirt and/or sweater. Translated into summer, that would be cutoffs and a t-shirt, and possibly a cardigan that gets discarded after the morning cool burns off. Cutoffs and a t-shirt is generally not an outfit I want to wear out and about. I don't feel quite dressed in it. Hence my attraction to the <a rel="nofollow" href="https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/wildfang-shorts-set">Wildfang shorts outfit</a> (see Finds) that a lot of you gave me feedback on in an earlier post. The weather is now right for the outfit, but I haven't removed the tags and am on the fence about keeping it. If I don't keep it, I may end up making something similar (though my past attempts at making shorts have not produced wearable results). And the outfit gives me some insight into what I may be after:</div><div><br /></div><div>1) non-t-shirt tops <br /></div><div>2) non-cutoff-jeans shorts</div><div><br /></div><div>I think one or both of these elements could elevate my shorts style enough to make it lean a little more sophisticated.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I just finished a kind of upscale camp shirt that I really like. I tried it on here with white shorts, a combination I also like. I hate the back view, so I'm not going to show it here, and I am going to try to put it out of my mind.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Today's outfit is dark Levis shorts and a striped woven pullover shirt that I made last summer. I think the dark wash on these jeans shorts gives them a little more polish than my light-wash rolled-up pairs (one example in Finds).
