Janet - too short for me otherwise I’d be all over them. I really like a pattern for their concealing abilities.

Jules - interesting point. I think with BB shorts, you can roll down the waist-band. My son definitely prefers that style.

I just returned these. The rise was too low and they felt too short, but they may be what you're looking for. Athleta has shorts of many lengths if they're too short for you.

Those are cute! Probably just a little too short for me, but worth a try. Let us know if you get them. I find it a mystery why it’s so hard to get these styles right. Or I’m just super picky.

Ooh, I didn’t see the 5” ones on the Brooks site. They also have a 7” version. Thanks Laura.

I tried some of the double-layer styles but have too much chub on the inner thighs and abhor anything squeezy.

Janet - any of the layered ones I own are NOT tight nor are actual compression fabric. In fact, I have the opposite problem at times where the layer rides up because its too loose. Or maybe it's because they are 100 years old, and have been washed to death. Just like their owner Better that though...

Here are my old Reebok ones. 5” inseam, inner brief. Not too poofy in the leg or butt. I personally prefer the curved hem because I find them more flattering on my legs but YMMV. I love the look of the style Lisa mentions but I’m pretty sure the layers with a tight leg would be disastrous on my thick thighs.

For athletic shorts, I'm totally into the layered look that almost all lines have now. (the underlayer being a faux compression or bike short) . This way you get a bit more coverage when on your bike (when shorts ride up) but still get the ease of a fluid athletic short! The pair I'm wearing right now are from GAP, actually.

Take a look at the Original Anti-Run Short from Title Nine. I have these and really love them. They come in both 5 and 7 inch inseam. I think they also have some other running/active shorts that are longer.

I'm going to make the overly-obvious suggestion: why not another pair of Brooks? I love the wide waistband on Brooks shorts. Their double layer ones are the only ones I wear for running. You can get them a lot of places but they have free shipping and returns direct from them, and some colors on sale.

Adidas Squadra 17 shorts are my favorites. I wear them to sleep, and any for number of other off-duty activities. I have exercised in them but prefer another style for that. They have a 5-inch inseam, but I would not say they are low-rise.

I sized up for a loose, easy fit, but I would say they are true to size. And they wear like iron: I have yet to retire a pair in the 10 years I've been wearing them.

I am wearing the dark gray and orange ones in the find below right now.

I had been keeping an eye out for such shorts for a while, but have slacked off on my search since I don’t run as much as I used to, especially not in hot weather (I would rather bike in the heat).

But I have two old pairs (we’re talking 8-9 years old) that were made by Reebok — it’s been hard to find any running shorts with length since then. The ones I did find were too poofy. I remember trying on some at Athleta at one point but they were all wrong for me. Most running shorts seem to be very short.

Maybe try looking at Reebok to see if they have a new version of that old style.

In my pre-pandemic life, I rarely wore shorts - too many ticks here to wear when hiking or gardening and not really useful for studio exercises.

But now that I am at home 24/7 and in and out all the time, I am really enjoying wearing a 10 year old pair of Brooks running shorts. Things I like about them are that they are made of a soft silky synthetic material, have a wide elastic waistband, are low-rise and sufficiently long with their 5”
Inseam. They are also loose-fitting.

Can you recommend anything similar.
