unfrumped, I was indeed wondering about the banded hem.

I like the polishe look, but these are sometimes mors Apple- type fit. The model to me is wearing it too fitted. Then, sizing up in this cut, there is sometimes a lot of middle fabric. The banded hem works for some but not for me. It skews not modern on me, but I'll bet there are good ways to style to make it part of an updated look.

Daria, thanks so much for the suggestions, they are super helpful. I am tempted also because of the sales price + promo.
I am actually not sure if there's a Sears nearby--I'll look for one (I haven't lived here for very long). Great idea!

KM - thanks for sharing the link. I'm often tempted to try LE tops since the quality is so good (especially for the price) but am always weary about the fit (I'm small busted like you). It doesn't help that LE runs very large and even their XS is often a bit large for me. Having said that - I do have a t-shirt from LE that is a bit boxy but fits me surprisingly well. The shirt you linked might work too, if styled right.
Do you have a Sears nearby where you could possibly try it on without paying shipping fees?

Thanks for the feedback!

annabelle, thanks for the suggestions re: linen tees (and for looking at my WIWs!) You're right about my style preferences, and I love the idea of a Mad-Men-vibe twinset!

Elizabeth, good point about AC.

Sterling, so glad for your first-hand experience with these! They are listed as a blend of mostly cotton with some nylon and lycra. I was indeed concerned about their being loose or boxy. I'm small busted and small waisted. But it looks like it's still worth trying!

I'm trying to upgrade my tops, as I mostly wear t-shirts (whether in heat or cold).

I own many of that exact sweater. I bought mine from Landsend maybe five years ago so I can't speak to the quality today, but the quality was GREAT five years ago.

They really are a very good alternative to tee shirts and I wear mine all the time. Because mine are 100 percent cotton I never found them to be too hot to wear in either the Spring or the Summer. The one problem I did have was that although the tops fit me perfectly in the shoulder/bust, they are really loose in the waist area. I always felt that looseness translated to "messiness" on me. Still I wear them quite a bit.

I can't comment on this specific sweater, but I can say that I really enjoy short sleeved sweaters in the spring. Sometimes into the summer if you work in air con.

There's a recent forum post alerting us to a promotion at everlane.com. There are some nice, loose cut knits that might appeal.

K.M., I looked at a couple of your WIWs, and this sweater will fit with your classic, simple style. You could add a matching cardigan for a cold office, if you need it, for a mad men vibe.

For me for summer when it is hot out, I prefer something looser for breathability and comfort. I have one linen t-shirt and a couple lightweight linen sweaters.

I didn't see anything linen on J Crew or Banana Republic. Eileen Fisher has a few, but they are a bit spendy. The finds appended are from shopbop. I'm just sayin' keep an eye out for a loose linen, when you are thinking ahead to summer :)

Has anyone tried these short-sleeve cotton sweaters from Land's End? I'm thinking they would be good as a dressier alternative to a T-shirt in the Spring, but I'm wondering if they are on the hot side (and also how they fit).
