Thanks Angie. I thought you might like the pants. Maybe I will try to style them with what I have. I don’t want to add other pieces to make them work.

I like the paper bag Gap pants best. You look GREAT with a tucked tee. EF dress is a winner. Great casual styling.

Yay to the dress Suz. I do have one tube skirt. I didn’t even consider it, but I like it in theory. I’ve decided against the pants because I think I can find something else I’m more comfortable with. In your recent post you talked about crop flares, and I may feel similarly about this silhouette. I am being practical about limiting my purchases, and don’t want to feel compelled to shop more to complete an outfit. I wouldn’t buy that jacket in another color, and I’ve never really liked anoraks. Sometimes it takes stepping back after being blinded by a pretty color.

Well, I was a big huge yes for the EF dress from the start. My summers are short, but even I know how crucial a dress like this can be in hot weather, and I wish I could get this exact item myself! It looks fantastic on you and super versatile.

I also like the BR top, especially to wear as you say (that's a silhouette I like wearing in summer, too). It can work with a tube skirt, too, if you have such a thing.

And love your semi-tucks!! So much fun.

The pants are tricky. They do look good and are a fun style and it would be great to experiment. But they are a commitment to a new silhouette so that means different tops, shoes, etc. Having said that, this is a low cost version and could be fun to play with.

I don't think the RL is a good fit on you. It's not the size -- it's the cut and fit model.

and the EF dress as styled shows why Angie says, over and over again, take it home and style it before you decide.....
i'm a fellow non ironer....about a year ago i got a new washer and dryer, it took me about 9 months to figure out that i had a steam cycle on my dryer---its like my new BFF.....
i do like the Gap pants, but totally get your reservations. love that blue on you, and i'd keep both the BR and EF tee's....the Clavin Tee fits great...i do find the coat slightly big, but not to big that i wouldn't keep it...

Jenn - The last two years I’ve been employing an early shopping strategy to find a bit more coverage. Finding the right T-shirt is so elusive. I think it’s because a little more structure tends to be more flattering. I’m not sure why poly in the summer doesn’t usually bother me, but there are other fabrics that make me itchy.

I have a pair of floral sandals I got last year. I felt limited in wearing them because they were a bit much with all the prints I have in my wardrobe. Also, my color palette is darker than I’d prefer, and the sandals often felt too light in comparison to the tops. That’s why I’m trying to find some solids to round things out. And it made sense to me that I try to find my favorite colors. Light colored tees are a bit of a struggle to feel like they look good on me. Many are too thin and see through.

You're making me want to get out and do some summer shopping! The EF dress is definitely a winner, especially seeing it styled with your current items. I really like the Gap pants, in theory, but I think I'd struggle with tops and shoes for them, as well.

I also like the Calvin Klein tee (could it be that elusive, perfect-draped t-shirt?) and the BR top, although I'd struggle with the 100% polyester in summer. The EF tee seems a little blah, comparatively, but I can see how it would be a good base piece in a favorite color. Plus, I bet the quality is fab!

Well, it may be because I’m getting older. But, I think it’s not just that. I used to wear more heels, and I’ve shifted to wearing flatter shoes. It feels like a matter of proportion. I don’t mind shorter skirts as much. Plus, I have worn a lot of shorter dresses, and I think I’m ready to move on from that. Also, a lot of the shorter dresses seem to be a fit and flare or a line, which on me breaks under my bust and makes me feel like I’m dressed like a kid playing dress up.

yes, I understand what you mean. Do you think it’s because midi length dresses and skirts have been trending for a while, so that when we look at a hemline above the knee we feel it looks too short?
Or is it because over the years we are getting older?
Hmmm

Jussie - it’s interesting about t shirt dresses. I have two Boden knit dresses from last year - see finds- that I expected to be more of a hit than they were. I did wear them, and I will wear them going forward, but I have to be very careful that a knit dress doesn’t read too juvenile or nightgownish on me. I decided for myself that part of my problem with them was the above knee length, and I have been holding firm on this style dress to find something longer to avoid my (maybe only in my own head) issues. I’d love to find the right casual woven dress this year too.

I love the Eileen Fisher dress. Dresses never look quite right without shoes on- and I know what you mean about how sometimes a photo can’t capture how nice something is irl. It’s intere to see how many different ways you’ve styled it- I’ve never had a t-shirt dress but maybe I should indulge in one!
My other faves are the two t-shirts, and that beautiful anorak if only it was a size smaller.
Good luck with the wardrobe building.

Sal - yes, in the heat it’s nice to have some breathing room in a dress. I do have a marmot black rain jacket. It’s very practical, but total gear and not pretty. Since another rain jacket is not a need, it would have to be spot on to work it into any clothing budget. It was after a trip a couple years ago and all my pictures were in this jacket that I put it a colorful rain jacket on my wish list. But I’m not going out of my way to find or try them on. Only if I stumble over one that’s just right will the box get checked. The blue sleeveless tee is getting a lot of love. It didn’t come home with me, but I will keep an eye for a good BR sale. Regarding the pants, I wouldn’t mind finding a full length summer weight pant instead. I will keep my eyes open for one. I really would prefer not to have a tie at the waist, as I think that limits to needing to be tucked in.

I like the dress - and styled it is great!! These easy dresses are essentials for hot simple summer looks.

Anorak - you can do better, but a good lightweight rainjacket is great to have. Mine is Marmot brand and while it is gear, I like it with jeans too.

The blue sleeveless top looks like a great essential.

I like the first pants but given your feelings on them maybe hold off. Bt the shape is wonderful so perhaps a similar pair will turn up.

Smittie - I may just be between sizes in the pants. I’m leaning against the pants right now for the same reason I struggled with the crop flares - I would have to deal with both top and shoe proportions to make it work. I do think it’s possible, and my height may help, but I may be too lazy for this fit. As in, I hate ironing. I also take your point on the BR top vs the EF tee. There may be room for both. T-shirts don’t go wasted in my closet if I like the fit. And see my post right above this. A background piece is a perfect description.

Liz - the knit dresses I ordered even in a long last year were above the knee. I do agree they make some that should work. My trouble is the right length often has a line across the middle that doesn’t usually do me any favors, or it is placed too high for my tastes. I will definitely check them out though.

regarding the dress -
I do understand it’s perhaps not as flattering as something more fitted, or in a great color, but I can see it being a great travel dress, it working year round for me, and it’s insanely soft and comfortable.

I don’t love the gap pants. I think they need to be hiked up. It seems like they’re sitting below the hip.

Huge thumbs up to the BR cobalt top. It is a great colour and shape and the V-neck is good.

The cobalt anorak too is awesome. I don’t notice any sizing issues.

I also like the cobalt tshirt, but a little less than the BR top. However, it might be more practical for casual days, so I vote keep on that one too.

The dress is great as a background piece. Would work well with interesting footwear or a jean jacket, straw hat or hoop earrings and trendy sunglasses. I like it.

I love the 2 blue tops. On the fence about the Gap pants ( just not used to that look maybe) and afraid I find the EF dress and darker tee boring.

I like the gap pants, but will need to figure out tops and shoes. Plus, I need to figure out if they’re going to be too high maintenance for my low ironing threshold.

Unfrumped - I am on the hunt for my favorite colors this year.

Cardiff girl - a raincoat isn’t a daily need for me, but would be nice for travel. However, this one doesn’t fit well enough on me to make the cut. I do think the dress looks better IRL, but agree it didn’t photograph as well on me. And I would love an easy dress like this in blue or purple.

Elle - I may check out the dress with accessories to see what I think.

Torontogirl - I’ve been getting encouragement from this site to try sleeveless tops. That they can look dressier than short sleeve, plus solve my broad shoulder issues by making the top width less of an issue. I’m open to trying to get comfortable with them.

I agree with everything Runcarla said. I especially love those Gap pants, and the BR blouse is beautiful.

I like the GAP pants on you and think they would be comfortable in hot weather. Hang them in the shower and see if any wrinkles steam out (I never iron). I also like the Eileen Fisher dress - looks like you could dress it up with a bright scarf or some bling earrings/necklace if you wanted to. You look great in blue

I really like the culottes on you I think that they would be fab in the warmer weather, buy them! The blue tops are a wonderful colour and if it’s your favourite I would go for it.I m with Runcarla on the fit of the anorak and the dress.I definitely think that you could find a dress that flattered you more shape and colour wise.
