Haven't ever shopped for anything on line yet, but have ordered Land's End catalog. Quality is hit and miss these days, and their selection of tall items isn't as extensive as it used to be.

That said, I am tremendously happy with my long winter coat (10T) ordered this fall.

If you order while in the store, a number of places allow free S/H. Maybe they'll be extra quick if you have the twins in tow? And of course you can return at the store, even if they don't carry the size range in their b&m stores.

LTS used to have free returns in the UK occasionally, I can't remember when, but if you sign up for the newsletter you'll know of the promotions. I'm sure they are very keen to make even better deals in the North American market where the competition is tougher.

Their quality is hit and miss in my opinion, mostly because of the sizing (my LTS clothes span XS - L in sizes), and also because the fabrics can be too thin and therefore clingy. And because they cater for the niche market, us tall women are apparently a rare breed, they can be pricey. However, they can get it right with some items and are worth pursuing.

I like the ON/ Gap/ BR tall lines generally because they are just extending their regular lines. The places with solely tall lines seem to have a tendency to cross that elusive frump line to my eye.

I am 5'8" but I can wear regular sizes on tops. I do not shop in specialized stores but I get lots of bottoms from Banana Republic (BR). I used to buy GAP but I have been on a BR kick for a few years now.

I also get my work trousers from Express. Denim I stick with 7, American Eagle, Citizens, I have also gotten bottoms in regular sizing, you just have to keep your measurements in mind.

IN general, Long Tall Sally quality is similar to Gap, I would say. I find then that in general you are paying a bit more for the special size. They do have a lot of sales and frequent free shipping and returns deals if you subscribe to their email list. I am 5'11" and a lot of the stuff in my closet is from LTS!

For button-down shirts, try J. Crew's perfect shirt or linen shirt in tall. Shipping's not free, though, but I can vouch for the quality - and the sleeves are plenty long! Right now there's an extra 30% off sale prices.

I'm tall too (5' 8"), and started this thread a couple of days ago because I am looking for tall jeans, and a lot of people had good suggestions:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....nnies-help

For skirts, I have found that JC Penney on-line offers a nice amount of their skirts in tall sizes, and I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality of their pencil skirts. They also have a few jackets and tops in tall sizes, too. For me, I am a bit short waisted, so I only need tall sizes for bottoms. You can return any merchandise that doesn't fit to their stores, if you live near one. I also think Macy's offers tall sizes in some of their clothing.

Hope that helps!

I've never bought clothing designed for tall women before (other than longer inseam jeans) but I've come to the conclusion I really need to. I'm **always** tugging down my shirts and yanking on my sleeves. Dresses look like minis on me when pictures show them as knee-length. Tunics don't quite cover my bottom.

So where do I start looking (U.S. shopper here)? Online shopping works best for me because it is nearly impossible to find time to shop by myself and shopping with two 2-year-olds is a complete nightmare.

I've looked at Long Tall Sally and Long Elegant Legs, but I have no idea about the quality of their clothing.

Free shipping/free returns is ideal, but one or the other really is necessary to make it worthwhile for me.

What are your experiences with quality and fit on websites that cater to tall sizes?

p.s. I looked up some shipping-return info for stores I know have tall stuff

Long Tall Sally has free shipping but not free returns
Long Elegant Legs has charges for shipping AND returns so they're pretty much out unless I'm 99.99% sure I will really like something
NYDJ (they have tall on their website) has free shipping and exchanges, but $7 for returns. Not too, too bad, especially if the $7 is a flat rate no matter how many I return in one go
Ann Taylor - $9 or free for over $175. It's unclear whether returns are free but I think they are
Gap - free shipping & returns. Yay!
Banana Republic - same
Old Navy - same
Nordstrom - well we all know free shipping/free returns!!
