Thanks Anya, that's sweet. I do think it's time for it move on though

Taylor, I am beginning to think emotion can be a good determinant. Maybe the thing that ticks all the boxes doesn't matter so much as what makes your heart sing!

And for what it's worth, I've already imagined a few ways to wear this - tee hee!

As for breaking my SYC, I am going with the idea that once my black dress sells I will again be even. I couldn't wait though, with eBay things can disappear if you don't pounce.

If that is worth anything you look 25 in that dress. I don't know, mabe with some tougher boots and jacket it could still work. And about the new dress , go for it! There is nothing wrong buying a style you like!

Vildy, yes, they all have front and center zippers. Sensing a theme yet lol? I did try the white one with my green linen moto over it and that helped but the eyelet is what's troubling more than anything. Funny, 2 years ago I didn't think twice about it. Perhaps it will get another wear or two here before I move. It is almost 80 again all week @@

Oh very sexy - is that a front and center zipper? I think the white eyelet is too sweet for now but if you love the look you could hide some of it with a tougher jacket.

Anya, I do like the white dress but . . . I will be 42 this spring. Does that change your mind about it?

I am an enabler here, so don't count on me. I was just asking you to keep the white dress, perhaps for casual outings. It looks so nice!

You are not down one dress. Removing something from your closet that has only been taking up space for three years and has never been worn is not losing a dress. It is freeing up valuable real estate. So the new dress will replace the white one that you will now get to enjoy on your lovely niece, and you have created space in your closet for the casual blue day dress when you find it.
I can rationalize with the best of them.

Okay, I talked myself into it. I am going to list the black Shelli Segal Laundry dress since it still has tags on it. That, along with some paypal bucks I have on account, should offset the cost of the new dress. I mean, if I haven't worn the black dress in 3 years now, I don't think I will. The white Tracy Feith will go to my adorable neice who, at 19, is perfect for it!
I'll be down one dress lol - how's that for rationalizing?!?

Lol Sara! I am continuing my rationalizations that it's not *that* dressy and I could dress it down with a cropped cardi or light cotton jacket and my wood heeled Mohop sandals. The mind games we play!!!

I actually think your logic is pretty darn good here!

If you find the ONE dress that allows you to retire TWO dresses, and you're truly happy with that ONE dress and will truly wear it, I think it's a great move.

I think most of my orphans (wasted $$) come with much less thought than yours. In those cases, my thinking has been usually more like, "ooh, I like that" :-\

I have been looking around for a casual blue dress for spring and on my search I tend to stumble upon things that don't fit the exact criteria I was looking for, but that I love.
I'm sure this happens to many of us. When do you stay the course and say to yourself, no that isn't what you were looking for. And when do you just accept that you blindly love the item and tell yourself you will find ways to wear it because it appeals to you on an emotional gut level, rather than filling predetermined criteria?

Here is what is going on in my brain right now with the dress in pic 1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110719.....1497.l2649 Yes, it is more of a dressy, cocktail dress, and not a casual day dress that you were looking for. BUT, it would easily replace both your eyelet dress that's starting to look too young on you (pic 2) and your black strapless that is so tight even after alterations that you can't imagine sitting for a meal with that boning in your ribs (pic 3).
Am I rationalizing with myself or does this make actual sense? Do you do this, too? Which side wins? And if it's the "I love it, I'm buying it" side - does it pan out or do you have orphans bought this way?
