For a while I was buying jackets and coats from the teen departments because they’re so much cheaper. But eventually I noticed they tended to be too short in the waist/body (maybe no space for boobs?) or too short in the sleeves. So look out for that!

Thank you all for the feedback, it was very helpful for making the decision. I am letting go of plaid shirt and camo jacket, they don’t really feel like me and doubt that I would wear them. Two puffer jackets I may keep for a while but truth is, the space in my coat closet is at premium and I would probably need to let some of my jackets go to make room. And I don’t like belt on navy jacket so not sute if it is worth it. I don’t have a short puffer so I am most likely inclined to keep that one.
I already wore the jacket in #1 last night, it was perfect thing to throw over jeans and a tee for neighborhood walk in chilly evening. But my DD kept teasing me that I look like a sushi waiter in it LOL

The coats look good I think, so I might hold onto them, so long as they don’t take up valuable space.

This is a hard question to answer, When I was 20 I started teaching 6th grade. Most of the kids were bigger than I was, especially girls. Although my best fit in those days was the girl’s department, I did not dare buy and weR clothes that the girls in my class would be wearing. In my 30’s I was still about 90 pounds on a good day and had lots of alterations done. I’d say ,be careful about wearing your daughter’s old clothes unless an adult would wear them. Everything in your photos looks ok for you to wear except maybe the paid shirt. That is really a young collegegirl look here., but usually worn with shorts or jeans and they look slept in.

None of the things are teen-ish. So if you like them, go for it. I have a couple things from my grown son - a sweatshirt and a down jacket I took to the Arctic a couple years ago. He had the jacket when he was the same age as your daughter. :)

I like them all except for the plaid shirt which I don’t think fits you as well. My DD has a different body type from me, but I still wear her Costco skirt from middle school when it’s very hot and I want a boho look — which is a couple times a year because we get few really hot days.

Ha, no clothes trading here! We’re not the same size and we have different body proportions (daughter has a very long torso and I think narrower shoulders). Plus, her wardrobe is literally 2 black long sleeve tees, 2 gray, 3 navy, and 3-4 pairs of mid wash jeggings. She has zero interest in anything in my wardrobe. I do think that if we were in the dire circumstance of needing something dressy for her we’d cobble something together from my closet.

I really like the first jacket and the 2 puffers! The fit looks perfect to me on all three. I don't think length is an issue as I'm sure you'll be wearing the first jacket with mid or high-waisted bottoms. The only tweak I would suggest is removing the belt from the black puffer.

Ooh, the blue jacket in #1 especially seems to have potential for you.

2 and 5 seem a bit less sophisticated. But they might be fun to specifically create a contrast with more staid/classic items. You could play around with styling them, or just hang them in your closet for a bit and see if they get used.

3 and 4 seem useful/serviceable but they don’t wow me like 1 does. I would think about whether they fill a functional hole in your outerwear capsule (when would I choose this over another jacket that I own) or if they could be more useful to someone else.

Our daughters are very similar in age and style!

School here is starting on Monday, it will be fully in person. I spent morning with my DD (12 years, starting grade 7) going through her closet. We ended up with 2 full huge bags full of clothes that are past their prime or that don’t fit anymore. There were also a couple of items, mostly jackets that were still fitting and in good condition but she almost never wears them because she doesn’t like them any more. Some are kids size 12, some are XS in teen brands. I was curious to try them on to see if they can be saved and worn by me. But not sure, are they too small and teen looking? Should I just let them go to a new home? I am wearing a tee and ill fitting sweater under it, just to assess layering possibilities.
