Holy cow ! This makes sense. I have read a lot of Paco Underhill's work ( he basically designed the modern department store for the maximum purchases ) , but I had never heard this.

I am so going through this now that I have made 3 purchases the last two days after almost 13 weeks on SYC. I am just itching to buy.

Many years ago I smoked. I have asthma and I did research on cigarette smoke (it's ugly ) yet I could not quit after several tries. Finally, I came to the realization that I just had to go cold turkey and not even allow myself one socially. I haven't touched a cigarette since, but I know that if I ever touch one I will be having 3 packs the next day. I can feel it.

Darn, I can go without smoking but I can't go naked.

very interesting.
Yes, I can feel the ball get rolling once I have started making a few purchases in a new season. I'm hoping that after SYC I can be aware and stick to my list and limit my number of purchases each month. Once I get rid of ... I mean, once my kids are on their own I can enjoy more impulse shopping. Until then, I really need to make every dollar count.

Don't know that a keychain would tempt me at all though..LOL

Interesting! I can relate and agree with much that was stated. It makes perfect sense to me.

on the syc weekly updates, several have commented that breaking the ban with one item often led to a major shop, rather than stopping at that one item.

here's an interesting analysis of the shopping process. i can see the "momentum" behavior apply to food diets as well as shopping diets.

thoughts?
