Well I’m not usually considering getting rid of them, you see. They are a sentimental “holding on to” issue.
You said holding zones were more for what you were considering getting rid of?
I mean I “sort of” consider getting rid of them “one day”, but so far have had for anything up to 30 years... eg 2 different graduation dresses, one from 1981, one from 1985...

Angie, aren’t holding zones for things you’re considering getting rid of?

Most of the things that are too small are in the cellar, but a few that I’d really like to wear are here.

Have you ever needed to incentivize yourself to do the daily things that lead to a big change? That’s why I keep them where I can see them.

Yay, hooray, one more item I’m looking forward to wearing, found in a bag I hadn’t noticed in the cellar that contains several summer things I’d been wondering about. Probably 20 additional items, mostly shorts & sleeveless tops. It all still fits into the wardrobe without overflowing onto the two shelves of stuff that will be moved to the vintage dresser when it happens, so I still have hope of multiple seasons in my wardrobe at one time. These are obviously high summer shorts, and I am happy that I can be excited about that again. Now that it’s not too hot to wear my blue knit fit n flare dress with toppers, I’m looking forward to making outfits with it.

Currently, the shelves are
Sox & undies (not shown)
Tops with sleeves | Sleeveless tops
Shorts | Knit skirts & dresses
Pullover sweaters | Cardigan sweaters
PJs (“Lounge clothes”, if you insist) & workout clothes (not shown)

Anchie, like you, all seasons at once might not mean all sizes at once. Maybe after a year or two, as I remove some items. For now, I’m just glad to have a decent sized storage space in the cellar.

Shevia, having just come from a place where something is in bloom all year, it is silly how happy even these little spring flowers make me.

ST, we are still dealing with that—cool mornings, warm afternoons. Once in a while, just as you've learned to deal with that, the afternoon decides to stay cool all day. Yesterday and today have been very windy.

Well done. I have big enough closet to keep all my wardrobe there without switching seasons, but I also have overflowing box of things that are either too big or too small and whenever my weight changes I shop there first.

Nemosmom, I hear you! A few weeks ago it got up to 20 (~70) several days in a row, then we had 10 days with highs in the 40s, lows around freezing. This past week, temps steadily climbed up, and today it was at least 70. I wore my clam diggers and a tank top, because I can.

Thanks, Cee.

RachyLou, go for it!

JenniNZ, lovely to have it laid out before you, especially when weather goes back & forth. I might be able to get everything in one space once I go through a year or two of building by attrition, and the undies and jammies that are on the top and bottom shelves not shown have moved into a lovely vintage high boy dresser with jewelry and thermals, once I find just the right one.

Well the fab thing is I don’t have to switch any more! It all lives in the big walk-in-wardrobe. I have organised it differently now, moved summer stuff to the back of each section and put transitional to the front.
I’m sorry about your blazers in a way but I also think they could well have been quite outdated and you may be better off to have passed them on.

JenniNZ, predicting wears is still really tricky because of the move to a very different climate. For example, I ditched a bunch of blazers I’m now thinking might’ve been good here, because I hadn’t touched them in years. And today I was wishing for a house dress that I don’t think I have any more (though I’m not positive—might be in storage). So it isn’t really about what I’m into at the moment, it’s what works in each climate (including socially—what people wear here & in Florida when it’s 16 degrees are very different). It sounds like our summer wardrobes are about the same size; the sweaters could be called “transitional”, as could the jeans. I saw you culled some things recently; are you switching over to winter wear yet?

Danusia, way to go!

CristeIJ, the 3 things I most want to wear have to wait until there is less of me, but I kept them in the closet as motivation to lose the weight. They are the cranberry baby bell bottoms, the black & cranberry dress, and the orange faux wrap top with big blue and white flowers. No problem fitting into the last one right now, but I think it comes across differently depending on my size. There are maybe 20 other things in the cellar that are too small.

LBD, if you go shopping in your closet, you have to post—you’ve got all kinds of great stuff in there. The dark background with orange and green floral pattern is a blazer I got last fall. Thus far I don’t have a very good track record of wearing it, so it is excellent that you have called out exactly that piece.

76 is a good haul. I have 51 “summer” clothing items, but dip into the transitional items on cooler summer days. Looks a good colour range. I’d like to see the same item in a pic that La Belle D. mentioned, what pretty flowers. I like to keep unworn things longer than a year in case I go back to liking them- and of course to reduce waste. But I suppose some of these may already not have been worn for longer than that?

Just switched stuff around for the summer. This is 76 items. There are some here that are too small (& more small things I didn’t count in the cellar) and probably an equal number in the laundry, so I have about 75 to work with.

The lower shelf is long-sleeved sweaters and cardigans that were winter wear for most of the last 9 years. I’m expecting some days I can wear them, and some days like the heat wave when we got here, with highs in the 90s. I’m excited about the mix. At the end of the summer, I’ll cull out what I haven’t worn.

The flowers at the bottom are just to even out the proportions and because I was that excited to see them.
