Zap is right about allsaints! I have a draped wrap dress from them that is fantastic. It does take me like 15 minutes to figure out how to put it on tie every time though, since there's a lot of ties and weird fabric bits. Looks great once I get it right though.

This current season one looks similar to mine (mine is black lace). Not cheap though. Crap, now I want it. It comes in two of my favorite colors, teal and plum!
http://www.us.allsaints.com/wo.....ategory=22

Don't know why, but when I saw her picture, I thought Donna Karan. Of course, that won't work on a skinflints budget, but if she has a long lead time, you may find something on a deep markdown.

Allsaints baby, they have a couple awesome drapey dresses.
Other designers: Helmut Lang, Theskens. I see her in more avant garde looks.

For non-immediate need: a Parsons (or similar) student/new grad who's happy to work hard to be discovered. Should cost your sister zero dollars but a lot.of fittings and however they interact to get custom stuff done.

She has the red carpet capital, no reason for her to pay retail.

Ralph lauren was my first thought. Adrianna Papell is a great one! Maybe Donna Morgan or Eliza J as well. Tahari might also work.

Oh! The Ralph Lauren draped sheath dresses might work too. This one is not quite the same as mine (mine has grown on sleeves and an underbust seam) but it's a similar shape. One warning though: it's very low-cut. I sewed the crossover fronts together and I tape it to my bra when I wear it.

Nanette Lepore might work if she's short waisted. She sounds similar to my shape except maybe a little bigger on top.

Adrianna Papell is a good bet too.
This is the short version of my wedding dress:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ad.....igin=Predi

I also immediately thought of the teal lace dress that Amy has.
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/el.....iza_j_lace

My sister asked me to find her a couple of event-worthy dresses. Not ball gown formal but versatile enough to go from wedding reception to film premiere. She is quite a different build than me - she has broad shoulders but is more of a round hourglass/pear with bigger bones. She is 5'3". She is willing to go more low cut and bodycon than I am and carries herself well. Size 10P according to her. Oh, and she's a skinflint.

Tadashi and Adrienne Papell came to mind and fit her well. Any other suggestions for brands or dresses? Thanks!
