There are some great scarves at Marshall's right now - walls and walls of them - all set up nicely on some sort of 'grid' rack type thing. Very neat and not too expensive.

Oh, and RoseandJoan - very helpful. I'm very new at this and your post gives me a good starting point too.

Everyone's listed good ideas. Is Savers a thrift store? I don't know it. Anyway, I think thrifting is a great way to incorporate accessories at a great price. I have gotten a lot of my favorite pieces thrifting.

My favorite place for jewelry is Kohls. They also have a great selection of scarves and belts. New York and Co. also has some fun accessories.

R&J- so right, if you love your accessories, you will get lots of wear out of them!

I have found a lot of my belts at Target and Kohls, particularly skinny belts in various colors. Scarves I get all over; I like the big long ones and Gap and Old Navy have good selection of those. Necklaces are usually from Kohls and Ann Taylor LOFT. I don't wear brooches or pins, but I do look for them in consignment and thrift stores.

As I'm in the UK I am unable to suggest any shops but think the following items would be of great benefit to your accessory wardrobe:

1) Scarves - I would opt for a rectangular scarf which are easier to tie and create a slimming vertical line when worn. I would choose a solid bright one to wear over printed tops and dresses and a patterned one to wear over solid tops and dresses.

2) Belts -I would choose one slimline belt to thread through belt loops and one wider waist cincher.

3) Necklaces - I would buy one shorter length necklace (the length of Angie's in the TV interview) to peak through the collar of a shirt or blouse, plus one long necklace, possibly pearls, which could be worn as is over tops and dresses or wrapped to give further options.

4) Pins and brooches - if flower pins are your thing, Danja picked hers up at H&M.

This is only my opinion Medusa, just remember to pick up the pieces that you love and you will not go far wrong. Do others agree with my post?

Cost Plus World Market is my favorite place for necklaces and scarves, but Forever 21 also has intereesting and inexpensive options. I also like Target and Kohl's, and of course- thrift stores for pins.

I second Etsy for unique and fairly inexpensive things. Also, Modcloth and Urban Outfitters have some interesting things from time to time. I think J. Crew and BR have nice costume jewelry selections, it's often on sale.

I am a newbie as far as accessories go, so I know what you mean by wanting to go inexpensive. I am still quite insecure about my jewelry purchases. I haven't had much luck with Target, but it may be because I don't go very often. I really like H&M for inexpensive accessories, especially scarves. I also had luck at discount stores like Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack and Nordstrom BP department. Macy's often has decent jewelry on sale. Also, check out Etsy.

What are your favorite sources for interesting, inexpensive accessories?

One of my projects for this fall/winter is to learn more about how to wear accessories and use them to diversify outfits. Since I am kind of clueless about what I want and how to wear it, I want to start inexpensive. I am specifically interested in:
- scarves
- belts
- necklaces
- pins/brooches

Where do you look for this type of thing? My ideas so far have been Target and Savers, but probably there are lots of other options.
